Topic: Law (band)

  Reassessing band funding for law
Law is in band D, although in the consultation document it is included in the overall cost centre (29) for social studies.
Law is one of the most popular subjects amongst students and university managers alike, the latter because it is perceived as a relatively cheap course to deliver.
Law schools are required to purchase, store, update and supply mass access to legal information that renders the study of law akin to the laboratory and workshop methods prevalent in languages, psychology, geography, archaeology, mathematics and education (all proposed band C subjects).

Band is now employing and recruiting additional young attorneys to do the leg work, interviewing clients and handling simple cases - all subject to his close supervision.

Resource/Band Name | MusicCrunch   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
Band names are protected under trademark law, because like "brand names" they allow us to distinguish one band's music and identity from another.
For example if Band #1, from the Northeast, scores a big commercial record deal or attempts a national tour, it may be necessary to purchase any common law rights Band #2, from California, may have acquired in the same name.
Band names are a form of property which can be transferred, or in some cases even owned by entities outside the band.

Band Names and Trademark Law by Alan Korn
If your band name has been established in a particular region, it is possible to prevent subsequent bands from using the same name in that region.
For instance, if band #1 from the Northeast scores a big record deal or attempts a national tour, it may be necessary to purchase any common law rights band #2 may have acquired in the same name in California.
If band #2 doesn't want to give up its name, or their price is too high, then band #1 may have no choice but to change its name.

The White Earth Band of Chippewa Tribal Council shall appoint a Panel of Elders to be available to advise the court regarding disputes arising under the laws of the White Earth Band of Chippewa when such participation is requested by a party or defendant in such action.
Band members shall express their desire to have a member of the Panel of Elders participate in their case either in writing or orally to the presiding judge of the White Earth Tribal Court.

The Band further notes that, while MICSA required the governing instruments of the Penobscots, Passamaquoddy, and Maliseets to be "consistent with the terms of [MICSA] and the Maine Implementing Act," the Federal Micmac Settlement Act requires only that the Band's governing instrument be consistent with the terms of the Federal Micmac Settlement Act itself.
Because the Band had standing to raise Count III and that claim was not rendered moot by the Commission's voluntary cessation of its conduct, the district court erred in dismissing Count III for lack of subject matter jurisdiction.
While the Band arguably stands in a different legal position than the Maliseets in some respects, we understand the district court to have meant that, whatever the differences between those two tribes, the impact of the Title VII exemption would be identical.

George Graham Reviews Scott Law's "Deliver"
Scott Law is a veteran guitarist from the Pacific Northwest who has often worked as a sideman and has also been involved with a creative acoustic jam band called Hanuman.
Law and his band emphasize a 1970s-influenced rock and funk sound with a focus on tight first-class musicianship, and some slight digressions into something approaching singer-songwriter material on the one hand, and an extended jam on the other.
Scott Law is one of those many musicians who have been on the scene for close to two decades, toiling away for the most part as a sideman.

Law Reviews: Origin and Early History - Professor Bernard Hibbitts
Not only could a student-edited law review provide the bar with a pool of specially-trained recruits, but - assuming it were staffed by the law students with the highest grades - it could also provide a convenient criterion by which hiring attorneys could identify the best and the brightest law graduates.
Third, a law review could address a law school's institutional need to gain and keep the support of alumni by providing a product that would bring news of the school to their attention on a regular basis.
A school-sponsored law journal promised to be particularly useful as a bonding mechanism when (as was already the case in a number of prominent instances in the late nineteenth century) a law school's graduates were scattered over a broad geographical area, limiting the opportunities for face-to-face meeting and regular conversation.

With band members' rights and duties clarified, conflicts can be resolved long before they end up in front of a jury.

This is the same band that has toured with the famed punk/hardcore/alternative festival, the Warped Tour sharing the stage with such punk legends as NOFX, the Descendants and Pennywise.

While Unwritten Law still makes ample use of catchy harmony vocals in their songs, they remain committed to providing music with a harder edge and more credibility than the cheesy pop-punk bands that have become so trendy in recent years.
