"Album of the Year," The Good Life
The Good Life's "Album of the Year" may not live up to its presumptuous title, but that's an utterly emo risk to take when naming your record.
But this is an album that grows on you, and while you may not introduce it to your road-trip repertoire, it's a good listen when you're alone in your room.
Maybe it isn't the album of the year, or even the emo album of the year, but it does have some redeeming moments and great lyrics.

The Good Life: Album Of The Year (2004): Reviews
Like most good thematic albums, or films or books, for that matter, it's hard to put the pieces together on Album Of The Year, and just when you think you've got the narrative unraveled, you'll rediscover another lost passage or double entendre.
Album Of The Year isn't as compact or viscerally exciting as the EP that preceded it, mainly because it's not as loud.
Album Of The Year is able to sustain a listener for 53 minutes--not necessarily interest, and certainly not to inspire, but sustain.

The Good Life: Album of the Year: Pitchfork Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
Whereas Cursive has made a career of pleading for catharsis through bruised, over-the-top emoting, The Good Life has always detailed Kasher's lonely nights; he formed the group for the material that would have sounded too sleepy alongside most of Cursive's ranting and raving.
Album of the Year's premise is somewhat ungainly: to document the passage of a year in 12 songs, one for each month.
The complaints with the album are worn-in with old caveats, namely the "emo" tag.

IF SHE WALKED INTO MY LIFE album review
The title of this album seems (to me), in part, to be a pining for the departed Sheila and for a lost past.
This effort on the album is beautifully judged in its development, with a bossa nova beat, and the passion develops wonderfully.
This album (along with the 1958 "Seasons Of Love" album) indicates that we would have given definitive sensitive readings of the wonderful songs of the day.

InternetEd Reviews: Frukwan- Life   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
From his days with Stetsasonic and Gravediggaz to the present Life album, Frukwan has proven to be one of the most consistent and intelligent rappers to come out of New York.
Like his other material, Life is full of direct lyrics that go straight for the jugular, yet they do so in a strangely poetic way.
Fans of all types of hip-hop should give Frukwan’s Life a shot, as it is an honest, deep-thinking, and unusually artistic album for the genre.

American Life, her tenth album, isn't much as a work of music -- diluted Eurotechno from her producer Mirwais, built around acoustic-guitar vamps that are either her own or about on her level -- but it is a certain marker in popular culture.
Three albums into her journey of yoga and self-discovery, Madonna is ready to apply what she's learned to the outside world.
But you can't escape the feeling on American Life that she has finally abandoned the fella what brung her to the dance.

I CARE 4 U, is a celebration of Aaliyah's music, composed for her fans and available to them in one 'must-have' collection, released one year after the tragic death of the star.
This album showcases her singing talent, something that has been questioned time and time again.
The majority of the album is written by Static, from Blackground's male singing group Playa, who does a very nice job, and she has a very edgy-rock type of feel in the somewhat in your face song "What If", written by new R&B man Tank.

THE GOOD LIFE, "Album of the Year"
With 2002's "Black Out," the Good Life affirmed itself as the moodiest troupe on the Saddle Creek roster.
But with "Lovers Need Lawyers," an EP released earlier this year, and even more so with the newly minted "Album of the Year," the group has put aside its desire to channel the Cure in favor of evolving into something entirely its own.
Although the Good Life's latest is most often on the downbeat, disappointments are rare.

Green - Life (CD Album review)
The album as a whole is quite a bold project.
This would be a fun thing to do on a live album, but the instrumental feedback fest is kinda misplaced on an otherwise subtle album such as "Life".

Deana Carter Album Tells Life Story
By Barry A. Jeckell, N.Y. Deana Carter has slated at March 8 release for her next album, "The Story of My Life." The country singer/songwriter's debut for Vanguard Records, the set is described as an intimate and personal album.
The album follows a period where Carter has allowed unprecedented access to her personal life through the CMT reality series "In the Moment." The show, which premiered last week, documented the trials of a performer pregnant with her first child, Gray Hayes Hicky, who was born on Sept. 15.
And it is Carter's singular vision that created "Story," as she wrote, produced and performed all of the 11 tracks on the album.

Few singer-songwriters with 12 million record sales behind them would offer a single such as Life for Rent’s "White Flag," which is in part an apology for the "mess and destruction" the narrator has left with her lover.
Emotions are even stickier on other tracks, with Dido’s Dusty-ish voice coolly sweeping through "Don’t Leave Home," one of the creepiest codependent-love songs since "Every Breath You Take," and in "Who Makes You Feel," ticking off a list of reasons why an affair is dying, while also admitting that she still loves the guy.
Dido's first album captured my ears, I've seen her in concert three times, and have an autographed poster of her up in my room for the past years.

Punk International: Review / The Good Life: Album of the Year   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-22)
Oh man, from the first line off the title track, “Album of the Year,” you know this album is going to be good.
The newest Good Life album begins with a line that pretty much sums up the themes inherent in this functional alcoholic's (ok, maybe just somewhat functional) lyrics: “The first time that I met her, I was throwing up in the ladies room stall.”
The songs seem very ambitious representations of the emotions from the lyrics, and The Good Life uses anything to convey these if it means using a conga percussion backdrop, or an entire horn section.

Thurston’s’ goal through this album is to simply bring a message of faith, hope and courage to people around the world.

His albums for his other band, The Good Life, are another matter entirely.
The ferocity of The Good Life discs equates to listening to a Cursive record with the volume stuck on the ‘1’ dial, most of the time.
The lyrics are also some of the strongest of the album: “You were scared, you were lonely, but you must’ve been aware / Life is a series of calluses, this is just another layer / So, build’em up, tough it out, yeah, that’s your skin—don’t let anyone under there”.

Although 'The Chronicles of Life and Death' it is not a terrible album, it is not a good album either, fans of Good Charlottes first 2 albums will be disappointed, and the musical side step is unlikely to gain them any new fans either.

Ricky Martin : Life - Listen, Review and Buy at ARTISTdirect
Overall, the album is a calculated mixture of smooth dance tracks ("This Is Good"), straight-ahead quasi-rockers ("Till I Get To You"), hip-hop-ish sub-bangers ("I Am"), and sultry ballads ("Stop Time Tonight"), with two Spanish-language tracks thrown in for good measure -- nothing too dangerous, all of it at least decent.
For strict pop music, this album is exceptional for the simple fact that there isn't a throwaway track here.
The broad variety on this album keeps it continually interesting, and it's designed to offer at least a little appeal to nearly everyone out there.

The Oakland Press: Oakland Life: Fabled album gives its creator new life
Then 24, Wilson had already had his famous emotional breakdown well before the album was recorded and he had become the force behind the group, holed up either in his studio or his home - where he wrote songs on a grand piano positioned in a makeshift sandbox.
His plans were ambitious; Wilson and Parks - who he had met through a Capitol Records executive - sought to "create the mood of early and mid-Americana" with a song cycle that started at Plymouth Rock and continued on a musical westward migration all the way to Hawaii.
While it was certainly appropros for the trippy times, and inspired by Beatles albums such as "Rubber Soul" and "Revolver," it didn'tsound quite like the "Fun, Fun, Fun" that was the Beach Boys' stock-in-trade.

The Good Life adds more subtly to its sound by diminishing the influence electronica had on its past albums and tastefully adding brass.

Indeed, Album of the Year is a promising candidate for album of the year.
