Lightning on the Sun - Robert Bingham
Lightning on the Sun, moves nimbly between Cambodia and New York City.
The Cambodian opening of Lightning on the Sun is told from the perspective of a thirtyish ex-UNESCO worker named Asher -- we never learn his full name -- who joined the organization on the rebound from a busted Stateside romance.
The strongest sections of Lightning on the Sun are incidental to the novel’s unremarkable story line, but they return Bingham to the corrosive landscape of his short stories.

 Lightning on the Sun
A case in point is Robert Bingham, whose death from a drug overdose in 1999 cut short a promising career but ensured generous media attention for his posthumously published first novel, Lightning on the Sun.
Lightning on the Sun is concerned with the misadventures of three characters, all of whom spend most of their time either stoned or drunk.
Lightning on the Sun is also very much in the modern tradition of the novel that wants to be a movie, which means that it tries very hard to be a second-rate, physically-oriented drama without a lot of introspection.

rimric folio | Lightning on the Sun, by Robert Bingham
Asher's goals in the story are always more than one step away, out of reach, in places where love or momentary happiness cannot bridge the gap.
Lightning on the Sun is not exactly an uplifting read in this respect, nor is it aimed at solving any of the ills in contemporary society, but in targeting those ills, Bingham does at least as admirable a job as Hemingway in demonstrating the listless nature of a lost generation.
Perhaps this is what inspired the mental image of lightning on the Sun.

It seems that no matter where I put the light_environment and env_sun, the map is lit from the same place and angle, and the sun appears in the same place.
It should simulate something like the sun, but a sun IRL doesn't shine from the whole sky, but from one spot.
Env_sun doesn't emit light; it's just drawn on the sky either by drawing a ray from the viewer entity through the sun to determine where on the sky it should appear, or by specifying its angles if UseAngles is enabled.

The Lightning and the Sun - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Lightning and the Sun is a book written by Savitri Devi outlining her philosophy of history with her critique of the modern world.
In it she elucidates her concept of Men in Time, Men above Time, and Men against Time using the lives of Genghis Khan, Akhnaton, and Adolf Hitler, respectively, as illustrations of the forces of "Lightning" (destructive power), "Sun" (life-giving energy), and "both Lightning and the Sun" (destructive power harnessed for a life-affirming purpose).
It is dedicated "To the god-like Individual of our times; the Man against Time; the greatest European of all times; both Sun and Lightning: ADOLF HITLER, as a tribute of unfailing love and loyalty, for ever and ever." It opens with quotations from The Bhagawad Gita and Rudolf Hess.

he characters in Robert Bingham's compelling first novel, "Lightning on the Sun," inhabit a modern wasteland somewhere between Graham Greene-land and the dangerous hot spots mapped by Robert Stone.
They suffer from the same sort of chronic ennui that Greene's characters do, but their malaise inclines them not toward spiritual angst but toward nihilism and sullen rage.
