  History of Beehive and Lion Houses, Utah
The Beehive and Lion houses were constructed in 1854 and 1856, respectively, as homes for Brigham Young, territorial governor and second president of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
While the Beehive House became the official residence for LDS Church presidents, the Lion House became a home economics center for the Latter-day Saint University, which was located on the same block.
The Beehive House was used as a dormitory, while the Lion House became a social center for young women of the church.

Architecturally restored and converted to commercial office space by James A. and James D. Hummert in the 1980's, the building was chosen by the Foundation's Board of Directors as a headquarters that will mark the continuing and active presence of the legacy of Lynde and Harry Bradley in the Milwaukee community.

The Lion House is the 1903 handiwork of the renowned New York City firm of Heins and La Farge, master planners of the zoo (and architects of Manhattan’s Cathedral of St. John the Divine as well as numerous subway stations).
Sculptor Eli Harvey designed the Lion House’s lifelike stone lion sculptures and the medallions that adorn the structure.
“The Lion House renovation represents the Wildlife Conservation Society and New York City’s commitment to the environment and the preservation of the dignified character of the original structure,” explains Sylvia J. Smith, AIA, the Fox and Fowle Architects principal leading the restoration project.
