  The Little Vampire [2000] - 0.3.1
A vampire jumps from a cliff toward a boy who is sitting in a bed floating in water (this turns out to be a dream).
There are a couple of scenes of vampires loudly slurping blood from cows; one time a whole family indulges and the mother wipes her son's mouth afterward.
A man shoots wooden stakes at a vampire family, and a man is attacked by a vampire; we don't see the attack but we see the resulting wound on his neck -- he is later seen as a vampire, having apparently been transformed.

Printable Version of Childrens Books: Little Vampire Goes to School by Joann Sfar   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
Little Vampire has decided that despite his ability to fly, freedom to turn himself into a rat, a wolf, or a bat--even his unquestioned right to "bite little girls till they bleed, without ever getting into trouble"--that what he really wants to do is go to school.
Unfortunately for Little Vampire, teachers and other kids don’t hang out at school in the dead of night, but math homework abounds, and when Little Vampire starts completing a little boy’s assignments for him, the two get to be friends.
Little Vampire Goes to School sounds like it should be a Halloween book for 5-year-olds, but with its comic-book illustrations, occasional toilet humor, and rambling story that touches on everything from the legend of the Flying Dutchman to whether an orphaned child ought to believe in God, it’s probably more appropriate for 8- to 10-year-olds.

 Universal vampire
As for the European vampire, other cultures have feared or revered a vampire-like monster, which has the same attributes: he is already dead and drink blood to lenghten its cursed existence.
In another version, the mulo is invisible even to his wife but he liesupon her and rapes her while she feels paralyzed and is unable to cry out to others; the widow becomes sick with terror, refuses food and drink, and eventually dies.
Since it was a common Eastern European belief that witches in general became undead vampires after their death, it seems likely that the natural death of a Veshtitza does not end her drinking habit.

 DVD Review: The Little Vampire
He even meets a little vampire his own age (well 300 years ago he was Tony's age) named Rudolph.
Although the material (vampires and all that) may be a bit too scary for the youngest viewers, older children may find "The Little Vampire" to be a fun rental.
SOUND: "The Little Vampire" is presented in Dolby Digital 5.1 and actually, boasts a moderately active audio presentation.

Rudolph is a vampire, but a nice one that snacks on the local cows and generally avoids human contact, as do his eccentric vampire family.
(although the vampire cows, hanging upside down from the beams in their barn are marvellous) they are all there for the purpose of creating a magical fantasy which should appeal to all but sour-faced pedants.
Indeed, it is with the vampires (and Tony of course) that you side, rather than with the smelly, dirty, cigar-chewing vampire hunter and his aristocratic lackeys.

 DVD REVIEW: "THE LITTLE VAMPIRE"
His appearance in the release of "The Little Vampire" not only proves that he won't be competing against Osment for any serious or high profile roles (notwithstanding their slight difference in age), but also that he probably shouldn't give up his "day job" of going to school and getting an education.
Based on the best-selling "The Little Vampire" novels by Angela Sommer-Bodenburg, this big screen adaptation is obviously aimed at young kids and Lipnicki will certainly serve as a focal point for that target audience.
That said, whereas vampires are usually portrayed in most films as solitary monsters, here they're a family that doesn't attack humans - they drink cow blood which leads to some later, funny moments that will remind viewers of the "flying" cow scenes in "Twister" - and instead want to become human once again.

 The Little Vampire (2000)
And though The Little Vampire looks like it might be straight-to-video-quality junk unleashed in theaters to drain parents' pockets, director Uli Edel's simplistic kiddie fantasy offers consistently amusing "horror" for little ghouls and goblins.
The script for Little Vampire was written by Larry Wilson (The Addams Family, Beetlejuice) and Karey Kirkpatrick (Chicken Run, James and the Giant Peach), both familiar with adapting macabre children's literature into inspired fare with all-ages appeal.
As basic as Vampire's plot is, the actors are more than game for these Halloween hijnks, particularly Lipnicki — earnest, goofy, and sympathetic as the pre-teen sleuth/savior — and Tommy Hinkley and Pamela Gidley as his kind but clueless parents.

Long story short, Tony befriends a young vampire boy (they save each other’s lives) and learns that vampires are simply misunderstood and want only to become human again.
Tony and the vampires have 48 hours to find the magic amulet (they’ve been searching for it since the 1600s), which is also being hunted for by a vampire killer (Jim Carter, Shakespeare in Love).
And the vampires don’t seem to obey the traditional rules of the undead, like not being able to enter people’s homes without being invited.

Press: THE LITTLE VAMPIRE   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
Based on "The Little Vampire" series of children’s books by German author Angela Sommer-Bodenburg, which have been translated into over 20 languages and sold over 12 million copies worldwide, the movie presents a kinder, gentler, and less aggressive sort of vampire.
Lipnicki (Jerry Maguire, Stuart Little) plays Tony Thompson, an American kid who moves with his parents to a small town in the Scottish Highlands, where his father oversees the building of a golf course for the stuffy Lord Ashton (John Wood).
A subplot about a menacing vampire hunter (Jim Carter) with a ramshackle search vehicle and two fluorescent tubes tied together in the shape of a crucifix adds more confusion than clarity to the proceedings.

THE CINEMA LASER DVD REVIEW-- THE LITTLE VAMPIRE
THE LITTLE VAMPIRE is a genuine delight that will appeal to school age kids, as well as their parents, which provides a whole lot of laughs and some creepy cool horror movie inspired atmosphere.
My only reservation about THE LITTLE VAMPIRE is for the smaller tykes, who may become frightened during a couple of scenes in which the creatures of the night bare their fangs.
THE LITTLE VAMPIRE is based upon the books by Angela Sommer-Bodenburg and tells the story of an American boy Tony Thompson (Jonathan Lipnicki) who has moved to Scotland with his parents, after his father takes on the job of designing a new golf resort.

SPLICEDwire | "The Little Vampire" review (2000)
Lipnicki ("Stuart Little," "Jerry Maguire") plays Tony, a kid from California who has just moved into a small, renovated Scottish castle with his completely vanilla mother (Pamela Gidley) and father (Tommy Hinkley), a golf course designer hired to build new links for a local lord (Wood).
Since their arrival Tony has had a recurring dream about a clan of vampires performing some kind of ceremony in which a comet passes over the moon and sends a beam of energy to a crystal housed in an amulet hanging around the head vampire's neck.
The boys fly around together at night (if you're holding hands with a vampire, this is perfectly feasible in the movie's anything-goes mythology) and Tony helps Rudolph's Victorian-Goth-garbed family hunt for the amulet -- which went missing 300 years ago and has the power to make the vampires human again.

"The Little Vampire" successfully subverts traditional representations of the undead, presenting the story of a family of vampires that want to become humans, not bite them.
Tony finds it hard to adapt to life in a new school and a new country, especially when he is teased by his classmates about his obsession with vampires.
Furthermore, the children save the adults and the vampire hunter, instead of being a hero, is the villain.

While there, Tony befriends and bonds with a little vampire, Rudolph (Rollo Weeks), about his own age -- for the past 300 years.
With spiked hair full of gel, nerdy glasses and a frozen expression, he does nothing to enliven Ulrich Edel's THE LITTLE VAMPIRE, which is as dead as a vampire with a stake through its heart.
One supposes that the movie is meant to be taken as a comedy, but it is a low-key and lifeless one with its best scenes generating only a small grin.

One evening, while in his room, practicing basic vampire moves, Tony gets a visit from a large bat, which transforms before his eyes into a 9 year old vampire boy, Rudolph, who happens to be extremely hungry, and convinced that Tony is one of his kind.
Realizing that Tony is not a vampire, Rudolph tries to fly away again, but having no strength he just plummets straight to the ground outside Tony's window.
Rookery the vampire hunter in his vampire hunting truck is in hot pursuit, and Tony, intrigued by the real life vampire he has met, protects Rudolph and, at his request, leads him to the local farm, where Rudolph drinks the blood of a cow.
