The word "Synod" in The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod comes from Greek words that mean "walking together." The term has rich meaning in our church body, because congregations voluntarily choose to belong to the Synod.
Contained in The Book of Concord: The Confessions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, these statements of belief were put into writing by church leaders during the 16th century.

While the Synod holds that the ordination of women to the office of pastor is contrary to the Scriptures, approximately 45 percent of its full-time professional church workers are women.

 The Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod - Theology and Church Relations
This report, approved in December 2006, is the CTCR's response to a number of expressions of dissent from resolutions of the Synod received during the past triennium.
This report, requested by LCMS President Gerald Kieschnick in October 2002, was prompted by concerns raised throughout the Synod in recent years regarding the use and contemporary application of Luther's commentary on the Eighth Commandment, and in particular his comments on the issue of public rebuke of public sin.
The Synod established the Commission on Theology and Church Relations in 1962 to provide leadership in dealing with the Synod's needs and opportunities in the areas of theology and church relations.
