The Malloreon - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Malloreon is a five part fantasy book series written by David Eddings, which follows The Belgariad.
While the story concludes in The Malloreon, minor events occur in the prequels Belgarath the Sorcerer and Polgara the Sorceress, which otherwise cover the history of the world.

"The Malloreon" is the sequel in five tomes to David Eddings' "The Belgariad".
This special edition compiles the first three books of "The Malloreon": "Guardians of the West", "King of the Murgos" and "Demon Lord of Karanda".
I like David Eddings anyway, so the second half of the Belgariad was a must read for me. You join all your favorite characters from the Belgariad on a second meeting of the Child of Light and the Child of Dark.

 David Eddings
David Eddings, along with wife Leigh Eddings, are long-time authors in the fantasy genre, with the best-selling Belgariad and Malloreon book series to their credit, along with others.
Beloved by thousands of die-hard fans, it is perhaps the improbability of the Eddings' universe, a world of engagingly "human" gods and goddesses, warmly drawn characters and delightfully witty dialogue that make the Eddings' books so enormously appealing.
In this wonderful companion volume to the Belgariad and Malloreon books, the authors have compiled their notes and maps and detail how they went about creating a marvelous fantasy world with its unique and intriguing gods, humans and magical aspects.

The writing is decidedly tighter in the Malloreon than it is in the Belgariad.

Now the first three Malloreon books appear in a single volume, taking us on an epic quest across strange lands among gods, kings, sorcerers, and ordinary men.
The Malloreon Epic Series is the sequel to the equally gripping trilogy, The Belgariad.
Truth to be told, I didn't really need this special edition of the first 3 books in "The Malloreon", as I already am the proud owner of these books in their Spanish edition.

Murgos, Nyissans, and Malloreons are not seen as "evil" anymore - they are characters with feelings of their own, and complex personalities, that a reader can empathize with instead of viewing them as the villains of the Belgariad.

 Blogcritics.org: Book Review: The Malloreon
It's not Robert Jordan, Raymond Feist, or Terry Goodkind; it's certainly no George Martin, whose novels currently set the gold standard of epic fantasy in my opinion (even if his latest installment is a year and more overdue).
The Malloreon stakes out its own fantasy territory, and Eddings does a good job of delivering an entertaining epic tale.
As an aspiring writer myself, I read Eddings or Tolkien and think, "I would have done that this way, or that way." I think the Belgariad was brilliant and kept me completely enthralled.

"Polgara the sorceress" is a book that can be liked by everybody that enjoys reading an engaging fantasy book, but will only be fully appreciated by those who have already read "The Belgariad", "The Malloreon" and "Belgarath the sorcerer" (yes, in that order).
The reason for that emphatic statement is simple: this book is the autobiography of Polgara, one of the main characters in those books.
And believe me, "The Belgariad", "The Malloreon" and "Belgarath the sorcerer" are so wonderful that they fully deserve all the time that you need to read them first :)
