		The Regiment was formed as the result of amalgamation of the 63rd of Foot and the 96th of Foot.
		The tram conductors badge badge was worn by all battalions of the Manchester Regiment through WW 1 with the exceptions of the 7th Territorial Battalion; I think it was also worn by the Oldham Comrades, who were the 24th (Service Bttn) of the Manchester Regiment.
		As a result of the army changes of 1958 the Manchester Regiment merged with the King's Regiment (Liverpool) to become The King's Regiment (Manchester and Liverpool) and adopted the badge of the Lancastrian Brigade.

	63rd Regiment of Foot at AllExperts
		The 63rd Regiment of Foot and the 96th Regiment of Foot would later amalgamate in 1881 to form The Manchester Regiment, which itself would amalgamate with The King's Regiment (Liverpool), to form The King's Regiment (Manchester and Liverpool) in 1958, later becoming The King's Regiment in 1968.
		In 1814 the regiment was based in Barbados, but just a year later, returned to Guadeloupe with a British force, with the intent of recapturing the island, which had been restore to French rule in 1814.

		This particular chapel was originally built in 1513 as a Chantry dedicated to St. John the Baptist by Bishop Stanley as a thanksgiving for the return of his family members from the battle of Flodden Field in Northumberland.
		Manchester Cathedral seems tucked out of the way in the city centre and its not a huge building when compared to somewhere like York Minster but its still worth a peep inisde to see some of its features.

		The Town Hall in Ashton under Lyne, alongside the Open Market, is the home of a small museum dedicated to the Manchester Regiment which was associated with the town for many years.

		Battalion suffered the fewest casualties of all those from Manchester, due to its lack of involvement in major attacks.

		Formed in 1897 after the opening of the Manchester Ship Canal in 1894 and as a partner to Furness Withy & Co. Sailings were mainly to Canada particularly for the cattle trade, but Galveston and New Orleans sailings were also made for the cotton trade to the Lancashire mills.
		In 1901 a joint service with R. Leyland & Co to Philadelphia was inaugurated and in 1906 a service to the River Plate commenced, but these were not a success and regular sailings ceased.
		Services to the Great Lakes started in 1952 and in 1970 Manchester Lines became a subsidiary of Furness Withy & Co. The parent company was taken over by C. Tung, Hong Kong in 1980 and Manchester Liners ceased trading as a seperate entity in 1988.
