The Mangler - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"The Mangler" is a short horror story by Stephen King.
It was first published in Cavalier magazine in 1972, and later included in King's Night Shift collection.
This story was adapted for the screenplay of a 1995 film (directed by Tobe Hooper) of the same title, though the brevity of the source material required significant additions not present in the original tale.

Mangler, the other trainee, despised Lightfoot for talking, and ridiculed him until Dusty "reprimanded" him with a well-placed kick to the gut.
Lightfoot pressed the team to continue, and Mangler, being the strongest, carried his fellow trainee who was too beaten to walk.
During the escape, Mangler apologized to Lightfoot for treating him poorly throughout the rest of the mission.

The story follows a man who takes the cursed antique parts from the original Mangler and builds a machine that is the ultimate hell.
Part 2 of the Mangler set visit is once again up at DC, along with some new on-set photos.
Lilja's Library got a hold of a couple new pics for the film; one of which shows the look of the new machine (shown on right), and UHM got a few more behind-the-scenes pics of the cast.

 THE MANGLER - DVD
Just four years after The Silence of the Lambs made Levine sort of a cult figure, the film is the first to capitalize on his new status, its resounding failure freeing him to return to the character actor ghetto.
But he's not bad in The Mangler, a judgment that comes with a little hesitancy because it's almost impossible to judge something like performance in a miscalculation as grievous as this.
Trailers for The Hidden and Critters along with a red-warning one for The Mangler share time with an "alternate scene comparison" option that shows three trimmed scenes alongside their slightly (and I mean slightly) longer "uncut" versions--mainly a little more gore is all, nothing to write home about.

The Mangler Reborn (2005)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
Ultimately, Mangler Reborn tells the story of three (technically four) characters one by one trying and failing to accomplish the exact same thing – escape from the house.
Thus, Mangler Reborn is a cold, mechanical, formulated, and emotionless journey.
Perhaps that's satisfactory for the titular character, a cold, mechanical, emotionless machine; however, the horror genre is rooted in (dare I say "dependant upon") human emotional reaction and psychological manipulation.

Impressions: When I first saw The Squidy Mangler from Cox Lures I knew that this lure would catch fish because it is similar to some well known lures shapes used for big game fish such as Marlins or plastic tubes used for Bass fishing.
At this size The Squidy Mangler is ideal for many types of fish that reside in rivers, lakes, and the ocean.
The Squidy Mangler comes in only one size, but there are 10 different combinations of body and blade colors to choose from.

The Duck Speaks » The Mangler
I say “supposed” because, as noted earlier, in the short story, the possession of the Mangler is due to a number of accidents.
In the movie, even if the possession was initially accidentally, the townspeople have been maintaining it for a number of years- and yet we still get the same series of unfortunate events at the opening of the movie that were so important to the original story.
The Mangler itself looks sufficiently nasty to be a plausible threat, even for something that spends most of the running time stuck in one place.

The Mangler Reborn (2005) - A Review by David Nusair
Given the sheer awfulness of The Mangler and its sequel (seriously, they're both among the worst movies ever made), it's virtually impossible to sit down and watch The Mangler Reborn without some exceedingly low expectations.
Still, Gardner and Cunningham display enough promise to ensure that The Mangler Reborn never becomes even remotely as excrutiating as one might've expected; the two are undoubtedly destined for bigger and better things.
About the DVD: The Mangler Reborn arrives on DVD from Maple Pictures with a widescreen transfer, along with a superb commentary track (which is informative and far more entertaining than the feature), a behind-the-scenes featurette, a stills gallery, and a trailer.

The Mangler DVD Reviewed on AudioVideoRevolution.com   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
“The Mangler” is a rather curious entry in this respect – it is a solidly bad movie that, despite an outrageously silly premise and a fair amount of scenery-chewing, manages to not be much fun.
There’s a strange sense of temporal displacement, too – much of the production design looks as though “The Mangler” is set in the ‘30s, but the cars the characters drive and a few other details set it in the ‘80s or ‘90s.
In the end, “The Mangler” feels like a longer, bloodier edition of a middling-quality segment of “Night Gallery.” Completionist fans of King, Hooper, Englund and Levine will all want to see this movie, but those seeking either real scares or hearty schlock laughs should look elsewhere.

The idea of greedy people selling their souls and sacrificing their children or even a part of themselves and subsequently harboring of part of the demon with them is also not exactly unheard of either in folklore.
So in a sense what is going on in “The Mangler” is that everyone is caught in a Satanic “Matrix” because they’ve “sold their soul to the company store” or have been enslaved without even any knowledge of how it all happened and why and of course some don’t even know it.
While only the R-rated version of “The Mangler” is presented on DVD, there is a comparison with the theatrical version on top and the unrated version on the bottom of the screen is presented for three key scenes of characters getting mangled (5:33).

Based on a short story by Stephen King, The Mangler is a fun, goofy slice of pulp horror that works best if not taken too seriously.
The end result may not be on a par with the Hooper's "peak period" of 1974-86, but it does show more commitment, style and sly wit than most of his recent offerings.
