These 2 bands are living their own way now, Sparta have released a 4-titles album, Austere, and The Mars Volta a 3-titles, Tremulant and both bands plans to release a full album this summer.
The Mars Volta are touring troughout Europe in March, check all dates here, or on the GSL The Mars Volta tour dates page.
The Mars Volta should play some shows in Europe in September, and they are said to prepare an LP on GSL.

Whereas Tremulant was a record with no general theme, except the prophetic mentioning of its follow-up album, De-Loused in the Comatorium was a unified work of speculative fiction that told the story, from the first person perspective, of someone in a drug induced coma.
Though lyrically obtuse, The Mars Volta have stated in interviews that the protagonist of the album is based on a friend of theirs, Julio Venegas, or "Cerpin Taxt", as mentioned in the story, who several years prior was in a coma himself.

The Mars Volta are one of those bands that defy categorization.
For people that have never listened to Mars Volta before I suggest listening to the Cd track by track in the correct order for saftey purposes (Atleast for the first time) insted of skipping through tracks for a song that can provide quick satisfaction.
I was turned on to The Mars Volta through Frances the Mute, and a couple of my friends popped in De-loused and commented "This is way better than Frances the Mute".
