The Mask of Zorro is one of these; it is spellbinding and old fashioned, containing every element of a traditional superhero film.
Zorro’s many sword fights are captured incredibly on screen, with clashes and clangs bringing hoots and thrills from the audience.
However as the young Zorro, Antonio Banderas almost steals the show, with a sparkling and exciting performance that is almost always on cue (though sometimes he seems all too aware of his heroic guise).

The Mask of Zorro Movie Review by Anthony Leong
The illustrious character of Zorro first made his mark in 1919's "The Curse of Capistrano", a serialized piece of pulp fiction written by Johnston McCulley, a police-reporter-turned-author.
"The Mask of Zorro" is all that you would expect-- a dashing and dazzling display of heroics and derring-do, abounding with swordplay antics and romantic intrigue, reminiscent of the halcyon days of Errol Flynn.
As the older Zorro, Hopkins brings an air of self-confidence and refined poise, commanding not only the attention of his protege during training sessions, but also of the audience.

Zorro, the swashbuckling hero of the undertrodden, was introduced to the world in 1919 when he debuted in the pages of Johnston McCulley's serialized novel, The Curse of Capistrano.
The Mask of Zorro, a '90s attempt to revive interest in the venerable hero, offers just what one might reasonably expect from a Zorro movie: a great deal of excitement and adventure, all brought to the screen by using a somewhat irreverent tone that keeps the mood light without trivializing the characters.
He is the original Zorro, the mysterious avenger who defends Mexico against its foes, including his arch-enemy, Don Rafael Montero (Stuart Wilson), the cruel governor of the region.

The film begins in 1821 (the Zorro character himself was introduced in 1919).
