World of Foy - Puppet Master Vs. Demonic Toys (2004) :: Review :: Horror Channel.com ::
The same cannot be said about Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys because despite having the movie named after them, the overwhelming majority of the film deals with really lame characters involved in a really lame story that revolves around the puppets and the toys yet rarely bothers to actually include them in it.
Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys is one of the biggest wastes of time I have ever wasted time on.
Watching Puppet Master vs. Demonic Toys is like watching a dying cockroach turned over on its back, its legs flailing about slower and slower with every passing moment until finally it becomes completely lifeless.

However, though the film’s premise centers itself upon the notion of Craig as the puppet master, a closer look reveals Maxine as the mastermind tugging the strings of the naïve characters.
Maxine embodies all of the characteristics of a true puppet master; she has the uncanny ability to influence and move everyone who encounters her the way she would like them to, which allows her to use the vulnerable characters to her own advantage.
The end of the film brings Craig to his final act, where he remains a puppet to Maxine and Lotte’s daughter, forced to accept scene changes and the entrances and exits of countless characters in the daughter’s life.

 Amazon.co.uk: Puppet Master 2 [1990]: DVD
If anybody thinks this film is basically the same as the pitiful 1989 instalment think again.Puppet Master 2 is a huge improvement on the pile of junk that the original was, as this time we get to see more of the superb puppets and learn more about Andre Toulon, their evil creator.
A brief description of the films would be that the puppets are controlled by their master and have to kill for him, but they aren't adverse to turning on him if his plans affect their wellbeing!
Normally films like this are over-done with blood and end up looking cheesy, but I can promise you that puppet master 2 is neither cheesy or overated.

DVD Reviews - The Puppet Master 1-4
Charles Band is a competent film producer, he has a very carnival approach to his movies - give the audience what they want and pull the cash from their pockets (making them happy all the while).
While he is sulking around dressed in rags to cover his face (I guess to not give away that he isn't the same actor from the first film), he falls in love with a paranormal researcher (who he thinks is his reincarnated wife).
The film, for a Full Moon flick, is well rounded and shows the puppets in a way that is much more marketable.

Puppet Master was the film that put Full Moon Entertainment -- Charles Band's independent exploitation film company -- on the map.
Puppet Master is actually much less straightforward than many films of its ilk and it manages to generate some stylishness in unravelling its body-count plot.
The plot evolves from a back-story concerning famous puppet master Andre Toulon (Hickey), who, in a big, fancy hotel at Bodega Bay toward the end of the War, hides his animated puppets and shoots himself minutes before Nazi agents arrive to wrest his 'secret of life' from him.

Dana’s big mistake, of course, was not realising what kind of film she was in, something the audience was tipped off to earlier, first with the inclusion of an utterly pointless character, the housekeeper, Theresa, and then with that pointless character’s equally pointless murder.
She is rewarded for her efforts with the film’s best human moment, when Dana finds the "dead" Neil Gallagher in her bedroom – and instead of screaming and fainting like Megan, reacts only with a smirk of perverted amusement.

Gary Westfahl's Bio-Encyclopedia of Science Fiction Film: George Worthing Yates
This was the film, more than any other, that terrified me as a child; for weeks afterward, I looked about the world uneasily, worried that bloodrust might suddenly trickle out from under the closet door.
It is perhaps appropriate that information on Yates's activities before and after his seven-year career in science fiction film is so hard to come by; for it is as if, like his most famous creations, he came from beneath the surface, effected some spectacular and entertaining damage, and finally returned from whence he came.
Only The Spider, Yates's surrender to the worst trend of the late 1950s — the marriage of the monster movie and teen exploitation film also attempted in The Giant Gila Monster and Village of the Giants — is a complete embarrassment.
