It turns out "Master" and a number of his scantily clad wives are holding a secret ritual that requires the family to play a pivotal role.
Master wears a nifty cape with two large hands stitched on it (the best effect in the film, actually) while he rants and raves, and the women stand around gabbing or wrestling with each other.
Manos is the ultimate Mystery Science Theater experiment, and I love the MST treatment, but sometimes you just need to see a film unaltered to truly appreciate it's wretchedness.

THE COLD SPOT \ Movies \ Manos, the Hands of Fate
The Manos episode is considered to be one of MST3K's crowning achievements.
The story in Manos is ludicrous, the acting terrible, and the blocking so unnatural that you may think the actors are taking instructions from an dog trainer just off-camera.
Add a slimy satyr with a speech impediment and a silly theme, lengthy catfights from "The Master"'s formerly catatonic wives, and a necking session that survives multiple interruptions from local law enforcement to apparently last through an entire night, and you have one of those films that is so bad it's a must-see.

The film revolves around a family on vacation who gets lost in the desert and winds up at an old, abandoned house which, for some reason, they seem to think is a motel.
The remainder of the film turns into a weird horror show as Torgo makes a pass at the wife and the family is terrified once "the Master" returns.
Final Thoughts: While I didn't think "Manos" was one of the funniest MST3k episodes, there's some good laughs to be had while the three watch one of the worst movies ever made.

 Torgo - Behind Manos
For many years, Manos: The Hands of Fate must have been the Holy Grail for aficionados of obscure, low-budget, really godawful cinema: seldom mentioned, hardly ever seen, exactly the kind of movie that, yes, a fertilizer salesman named Hal P. Warren would decide to make, one fine summer in 1966.
As for the Master's 'wives', they were recruited from a local modeling agency, Fran Simon's Mannequin Manor.
Betty Pierce, the movie reviewer for the El Paso Times, was particularly taken with the climax, in which, she headlined, Torgo is "Massaged to Death," although she also claimed to see Torgo as the film's Existential Hero.
