To All My Loved Ones, Do Not Stand At My Grave And Weep - The Song
At that point I decided the best way to get the message of the song across was to make a recording myself, so to this end I approached Alan Hawkshaw, to me the doyen of musical arrangers and composers of TV and film.
I had worked with Alan in the past and knew that he was the man to help me in my efforts to have the song and its message heard by a worldwide audience.
It is not the easiest song for an established artiste to take on, dealing as it does with a subject which carries with it a natural taboo.

Papercut Theology: I See Things Upside Down
It's a fine song on its own, in keeping with the message of the album that "the foolishness of God is wiser than man's wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man's strength." But as the finale of this album, the sound and mood make it blurs into the myopic whole.
In this song Derek is in his mode of challenging the American church and modern, complacent Christians -- something he does quite well (it was the theme of his debut solo album, She Must and Shall Go Free), and a message that needs to be heard.
The song, especially the end, is plagued with a series of unmusical sound effects and synthesized echoes.

However, by far the most controversial backward messages on the song can be found in the following soundtrack.
Backward messages in music (commonly known as Backward Masking) have been a controversy ever since the late 60s, when messages were found backwards on some Beatles' albums that hinted Paul McCartney had died.
The term Backward Masking has been mistakenly given to all forms of backward messages in music whereas in fact there are 2 types - (1) Backward Masking, which is the deliberate insertion of backward messages (2) Reverse Speech, the naturally occurring form of backwards messages, or phonetic reversals.

 The Iron Maiden Commentary
In general, a backward message is some message in a song which is heard backward when the song is played normally.
But in any case, this type of message is never intended by the artists – it would take a huge amount of time and energy to identify suitable phrases that worked in both directions, and I cannot believe that the musicians actually do this.
So if this had turned out to be a genuine backward message, it wouldn't have bothered me although I'd have been a bit disappointed that Maiden felt they needed to pander to this lame stereotype.

 Helter Skelter
"Helter Skelter" deliberately defies the right-wing effort to censor the messenger for the message (or to sanitize art), whether or not one thinks that particular artists in the exhibition have got the message right.
The actual subtext of "Helter Skelter," however, is disgust (sometimes couched as adolescent rebellion) with the official and unofficial violence and social denial of contemporary American society.
The repeated flat symbols of Lari Pittman's paintings (the yin-yang number 69, spurting phallic candles, filigree chains of spurting drops, symmetrical ownl shapes and symmetrically arranged silhouettes of 18th-century wigged figures) are all keenly balanced and seem removed from the kind of representation of disorder in the exhibitions other paintings.
