The Miami Herald - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The newspaper was renamed The Miami Herald on December 1, 1910.
As of 2004, The Herald was the country's 24th-largest newspaper, with a Sunday circulation of 447,326, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations.
Many journalists and readers of the Herald disagreed with the decision to fire rather than suspend DeFede, arguing that it was made in haste and that the punishment was disproportionate to the offense.

I could tell you too many stories of dedicated, impassioned students at Miami Dade College who were forced to abandon their studies to make ends meet.
It is daring for many reasons, not the least of which is its bold ambition: to turn Miami-Dade from one of the nation's poorest communities to one of its most prosperous; to build, as the project's mission statement asserts, a community and economy that work for all.
Imagine Miami is daring because it confronts the failures of our civil society.

MIAMI, Florida (CNN) -- The Miami Herald will publish a front-page story Monday that details its analysis of the aborted presidential recount effort in Florida, a news executive for the newspaper said Sunday.
The Herald's Monday story will focus on "what would have happened if the recount had gone forward without challenge" in four counties cited by Democrat Al Gore, Siebel said.

The Herald editorial’s overall tone is one in defense of the terror suspects.
The Herald itself reported in January 22nd that there were 899 applications for asylum by Venezuelans in 2003, of which 168 were accepted.
With this incident, the Herald does a dirty job for Venezuelan opposition leaders who have abstained from defending these individuals publicly as part of an insincere effort to distance themselves from radical sectors of the opposition and to try to clear their image as coup plotters.

Correa and his various bands -- Suenalo, Locos Por Juana, and Xperimento -- are at the center of a new sound in Miami, one which was celebrated at Club State during the Miami Latin Funk Festival earlier this month.
The sound is a blend of Colombian cumbia and vallenato, Jamaican reggae and dancehall, Cuban son and timba, American funk and hip-hop, seasoned with Brazilian, Puerto Rican and other music from both hemispheres.
In Miami, musicians accustomed to hearing music from all over and jamming with artists from all over are mixing it all together, following instinct more than a conscious plan.
