But in the case of Molloy, there is an intelligent twist to the myth – he’ll be hamming it up as the bloke who yells blue murder at a barbecue, but, at the same time, he is taking the piss out of that person.
Molloy says getting into comedy was never a case of a burning desire to be a comedian or that his friends thought he was funny.
Molloy’s big break came when he was offered a gig with Rob Sitch, Santo Cilauro, Jane Kennedy and Tom Gleisner who had a breakfast show on Triple M in Melbourne as “The D Generation”.

Mick's strength has always been in playing the 'loveable larrikin' character: the slightly crazy, roguish, short-tempered madman to the more 'straight man'-type comedians, particularly long-time cohort Tony Martin.
Molloy plays Jack Simpson, who is 'called up for service' by the local bowling club — a club of which he is only a member for its readily-available inner-city car parking.
Mick stars as Jack Simpson, a guy in a telemarketing job who takes up a membership at the local bowls club so that he can use a few parking spots there, and make a bit of cash on the side from leasing them.

Fans of Mick Molloy’s previous works will be familiar with the style of humour used throughout this feature, which never really varies from the normal array of dick and fart jokes.
Mick Molloy and old The Late Show fanatics will enjoy the premise of this disc, and may even get a few good laughs out of it.
However most others will probably be quite confused as to why the grubby looking Mick Molloy, who always appears to be in the need of a good shave, is hosting such a shonky tutorial on golfing techniques.

Mick Molloy's new show Tough Love has already generated some terrific feedback and considerable ratings success in the Melbourne market which is a sign of things to come in the future for Triple M Sydney.
The Breakfast show experienced a slight decline in audience share, however mornings and afternoons recorded the largest audience increases in Brisbane in survey one (increases of 3.2 and 3.7 respectively).

Tony Martin (comedian) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Initially gaining recognition for his involvement with The D-Generation in the 1980's, Martin is now best known for his top-rating national radio program Martin/Molloy, which he co-hosted with Mick Molloy from 1995 until 1998.
Martin's major TV work was on the early 1990s ABC comedy The Late Show (1992-1993).
He also made several appearances on The Panel, the infamous The Mick Molloy Show, and in Kath and Kim (as Magda Szubanski's fiddle-playing boyfriend).

Mick Molloy and Tony Martin have been mates for ages, first on the comedy sketch favourite The Late Show (where film fan Martin served up a number of gut busting movie parodies, with his hilarious Arnold Schwarzenegger “He’s a genius” spoof now a true classic), and later on their wildly successful Martin/Molloy radio show.
As with Crackerjack, Molloy found himself surrounded by a few old acquaintances on Bad Eggs: along with leading lady Judith Lucy, the cast is filled out with fellow comedians Shaun Micallef and Bob Franklin, as well as Crackerjack scene stealer Bill Hunter.
The Mick Molloy Show was Mick’s infamously short-lived Saturday night variety show for Channel 9, and after a bit of a spell, he’s ready to head into the vaults and revaluate the material for a probable release on DVD.

I think the big hurdle for the show is that if it hits a down spot for just 2 to 3 weeks then it will get cancelled and that it will be hard for them to keep it from getting old quickly.
I haven't seen much of this show because I won't watch anything that clashes with The Panel, but this reminds me of another experiment by channel 9, the good ol' Mick Molloy Show, where a bunch of comedians just sat around and chatted about nothing with no script whatsoever.
If this TV show was on the ABC or even channel 10, it would go for a full season for sure, but I don't have confidence in channel 9.

Indeed, the phrase regularly used by Micallef, Abbott and Innes is "a Tonight show with a twist", though it's hard to get a straight answer about what those twists might precisely be, or what has been jettisoned, retained or learned from the "test show" phase (no one is using the word "pilot").
But by the sound of "Tonight show with a twist", that doesn't mean you shouldn't expect to see him lying in a ditch somewhere, or taking a pie in the face, if that's what's required to get a laugh, or to fox the audience.

They are also part of a Channel Nine tradition that involves the heralding of a big name comedian’s new show, the subsequent axing of said show and then the slipping in of lesser-know comedians late at night to surprise acclaim.
Amidst a huge amount of publicity, Molloy was unceremoniously dumped only 8 shows into his reign and in the not too distant future, heads at the network would roll because of this shamble.
