The Misfits - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Misfits were a punk rock band formed in 1977 in the town of Lodi, New Jersey, and originally led by singer Glenn Danzig (nè Anzalone).
The early Misfits were often quite melodic: Danzig's voice was extremely supple, with a style rooted in Italian tenors such as Mario Lanza, and in 1950's doo wop ; and with songwriting including strong pop hooks and sing-along choruses -- but grafted onto a very loud, and often cruddy-sounding punk band.
The original Misfits broke up in 1983, having released several 7" singles and 12" records, in DIY limited-edition (most were hand-assembled by the band), that have long been considered prime collectors' items.

The Misfits (movie) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Misfits is a 1961 American movie, written by Arthur Miller, directed by John Huston, and starring Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, Montgomery Clift, Eli Wallach and Thelma Ritter.
The Misfits depicts the chance meeting and unlikely love affair in Reno, Nevada of a depressive divorcée, Roslyn Taber (Monroe), and Gay Langland (Gable), an aging ex-cowboy prone to gambling and surviving on mustang rustling.
The "misfits" of the title are both the weak horses which are most likely to be caught in the cruel roping, and the weak, sad characters of the story, unable to find satisfaction and picked off, one at a time, by fate.

The 45 was fully endorsed by longtime Misfits supporter Sara Karloff, (daughter of the late Boris Karloff) who gave consent for the use of her father's image in connection with the record.
The Misfits and their "Fiend Club" were also instrumental in petitioning and seeking approval for the 1997 release of the U.S. Monster Stamp series, which among others, featured Bela Lugosi Sr., as Dracula and of course, Boris Karloff as Frankenstein.

The Misfits were a punk rock band formed in 1977in the town of Lodi, New Jersey, and led by singer Glenn Danzig (nè Anzalone).
The Misfits' songs were often quite melodic : Danzig's vocal style was rooted in Italian tenors and '50s doo-wop, and his songwriting left ample room for hooks and choruses amid the gnarl and blare of the instruments (the Misfits were, in both good ways and bad ways, a notably cruddy instrumental ensemble).
Freed from the Misfits' contractual obligations to Universal's Geffen and Roadrunner imprints, Only and Misfits confidant John Cafiero formed Misfits Records and launched their new label with two releases, the American debut of their Japanese imitators Balzac, and a new Misfits album featuring the band's retakes on ten 50's rock classics, "Project 1950".

The Misfits were a punk rock group formed in 1977 at the height of the punk rock movement, in the town of Lodi, New Jersey, and led by singer Glenn Danzig.
The Misfits' songs were often quite melodic: their catchy choruses weren't too far removed from doo-wop or 1950's and 1960's bubblegum pop.
The Misfits denied the charges, and a witness reportedly attested that they had not even entered the cemetery gates, the band bailed themselves out of jail and skipped court to drive to their next performance in Florida.

 5/25/99: The Misfits
The Misfits is not the greatest movie ever made, and although it has memorable turns of phrase it's not end-to-end poetry.
The movie is about characters played by Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, Montgomery Clift, Eli Wallach and Thelma Ritter -- sadsacks and "misfits" who come together and in the end participate in a mustang round-up.
The Misfits is my favorite of his works because it has the jazzy, sweetly melodic style he did so well, plus the dissonant, modernist side -- the virtual "ballet" he wrote for the mustang round-up.

It would be rather arrogant to suggest that the movie was ahead of its' time but its' hard to escape that feeling.
There are a number of great scenes in the movie including one in which Marilyn Monroe is playing the child's game of paddle ball in a bar.

The Misfits seldom mixed with other NJ punk bands, creating their own small scene locally, while holding early acclaim in NY and expanding it nationally -- via tireless work with mailing lists and other networking, including their once-small, later-considerable 'Fiend Club' (the song, 'We are 138,' referred to early Fiend Club membership).
During their original career, the Misfits were exemplary practitioners of the DIY ethic: The band (especially Danzig) booked their own shows, assembled and sold their own records, and ran their own fan club, the Fiend Club.

The movie is (presumably) meant to be serious and thought-provoking (something around as deep as "was Castle justified in killing all those people just because his family got murdered?") but it's hard to view it as such when Castle keeps surviving worse and worse injuries.
Sadly, the film is short far more like a television movie than it is a true theatrical outing befitting some of Marvel's other recent properties (SPIDER-MAN and THE HULK as example), and a significant portion of film is bathed in flness, making the murky picture only fall hand-in-hand with the murkier script.
The movie does have it's moments, like when Frank Castle fights a giant Russian in his apartment, and when Castle sneaks into his arch enemy's lair and takes out his henchmen.

 North: The Misfits
The Misfits boasts a cast and crew of extraordinary pedigree - director Huston, screenwriter Arthur Miller (one of North's closest friends, and the reason he scored the picture) and stars Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, Montgomery Clift and Eli Wallach.
The Misfits tells the complicated, adult story of three men lusting after one beautiful women, in completely different ways, and with completely different results; the story is told from the woman's perspective (unusual for its time!) and details her reaction to the men's attention.
Regardless of the friendship with Miller, North was the ideal composer to score the film: the most intelligent of all the film composers, none has ever so successfully scored literary, adult-themed films.

Though megawatt star power and a brilliant script by Arthur Miller failed to turn THE MISFITS into box office success (probably due a legendarily troubled shoot), time and critical reputation treated it very kindly.

The thing about X-Men is that it stands on its own as both a comic book and fantasy movie and as an action movie.
But also because there's real dramatic tension and real character, it actually is appealing on a more human level than some action movies which don't take the time to explore the characters.

Miller's early work was produced during Broadway's golden age, when middle-class audiences flocked to the theater and a playwright could still become a popular hero.
Some of Miller's celebrity came from his 1956 marriage to movie star Marilyn Monroe; that relationship was the veiled subject of his play "After the Fall" in 1964.
The play was based on the tempestuous real-life story of the filming of "The Misfits," the movie for which Miller wrote the screenplay as a gift to his wife, Monroe.
