		The Misfits were a punk rock band formed in 1977 in the town of Lodi, New Jersey, and originally led by singer Glenn Danzig (nÃ¨ Anzalone).
		The early Misfits were often quite melodic: Danzig's voice was extremely supple, with a style rooted in Italian tenors such as Mario Lanza, and in 1950's doo wop ; and with songwriting including strong pop hooks and sing-along choruses -- but grafted onto a very loud, and often cruddy-sounding punk band.
		The original Misfits broke up in 1983, having released several 7" singles and 12" records, in DIY limited-edition (most were hand-assembled by the band), that have long been considered prime collectors' items.

		The Misfits is not the greatest movie ever made, and although it has memorable turns of phrase it's not end-to-end poetry.
		The movie is about characters played by Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe, Montgomery Clift, Eli Wallach and Thelma Ritter -- sadsacks and "misfits" who come together and in the end participate in a mustang round-up.
		The Misfits is my favorite of his works because it has the jazzy, sweetly melodic style he did so well, plus the dissonant, modernist side -- the virtual "ballet" he wrote for the mustang round-up.

		The movie is (presumably) meant to be serious and thought-provoking (something around as deep as "was Castle justified in killing all those people just because his family got murdered?") but it's hard to view it as such when Castle keeps surviving worse and worse injuries.
		Sadly, the film is short far more like a television movie than it is a true theatrical outing befitting some of Marvel's other recent properties (SPIDER-MAN and THE HULK as example), and a significant portion of film is bathed in flness, making the murky picture only fall hand-in-hand with the murkier script.
		The movie does have it's moments, like when Frank Castle fights a giant Russian in his apartment, and when Castle sneaks into his arch enemy's lair and takes out his henchmen.

		After watching The Misfits in preparation for presenting this page, a few notes struck me. In Marilyn's opening scene she is rehearsing her answers for divorce court.
		As she whispers her lines to herself in the mirror it seems this scene could have carried her dangerously close to self parody due to her difficulty remembering her lines for scripts.
		This may have proved to be the breakthrough movie role Marilyn so desperately had hoped it would be.
