With a misprint hunter from each village, and the fourteen misprints gathered, the misprint dragons were born.

Misprint Hunter broke the ice around his mask, and switched back to the Black Ruru, and teleported back to the little hut, which he would make his new hideout.

The A.V. 1611 Answers Association King James Bible Article Selections   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-18)
Matthew 23:24 states, “Ye blind guides, which strain at a gnat, and swallow a camel.” The centuries of compiled objections to the reading of this verse in the King James Bible rest on the proposition that the word at is a bit of an anachronism introduced by the printers (not translators) in 1611.
“The classic misprint which has been perpetuated by modern editions is Matthew 23:24, ‘strain at a gnat' instead of ‘strain out a gnat.'” 1 A major contributor to the misprint conjecture is the scholar, Edgar Goodspeed.
Basically, the point is, that “strain at” is essentially not a misprint, hasn't been proven to be one, and upon dealing with evidence that it isn't a misprint, Bible correctors must resort to other convenient interpretations to preserve their dignified and intellectual appearances.

It is also possible that Willis drew inspiration from the Waterloo vase, a monstrous marble urn weighing over 20 tons, which passed from one unwilling keeper to another until finally a home was found for it in the grounds of Buckingham Palace.

Since printers in the seventeenth century didn’t have that luxury, it is a wonder that books published back then don’t contain more errors than they do.
Misprints in the Bible have always been of particular concern.
My point is simply this: Bush apologists, Republican loyalists, Christian warmongers, and other assorted defenders of the war in Iraq are doing just what the king’s printer did back in 1631, but only worse since they are doing it deliberately.

 On "The Man-Moth"
I’ve forgotten what it was that was supposed to be "mammoth." But the misprint seemed meant for me. An oracle spoke from the page of the New York Times, kindly explaining New York City to me, at least for a moment.
We know that a newspaper misprint, reading "manmoth" for "mammoth," prompted the poem: the idea of a doomed spirit trapped in a subway rider’s form, sitting always backward, racing under the city streets (in the world of the third rail "running along silently, as insincere as poison," she wrote in her notebook).
Even if Bishop's footnote to the "The Man-Moth" implies it is a whimsical, playful poem, based on a "Newspaper misprint for 'mammoth'," it is a poem which plays on the sense of the self and its double.

 Bible Misprints
The “Camels Bible” of 1823 took that nickname from a misprint in Genesis 24:61 which reads, “And Rebekah arose, and her camels” instead of “her damsels.” This mistake is easily understandable when you realize that the word “camels” also is found in the same verse.
Such errors are attributable to a slip of the eye by the typesetter and an oversight on the part of the proofreader.
Another amusing one is to be found in the 1806 Bible containing a misprint in Ezekiel 47:10 which reads, “that fishes (instead of “fishers”) shall stand,” giving it the designation of the “Standing Fishes Bible.”

The Antigonish Review: Michael Benigni - Elizabeth Bishop
The poem's title, subject, and inspiration derive from a serendipitous reading of a misprint of the word "mammoth" which appeared in an unidentified New York Times article.
Throughout her career, Bishop had been coy or silent about the poem's genesis, and considering the poem's status and importance in her poetic development, it is very tempting to speculate on these matters.
She had read Baudelaire and the French symbolists and she was beginning to take an interest in the French surrealists.
