		And sometimes, as in THE NAKED SPUR, Stewart would portray a man so driven by the difficulties that life has thrust upon him, that his greatest struggle isn't with his human enemy so much as it is with his highly tenuous grip upon sanity.

		It is not immediately obvious that revenge is driving him from before the start of what is shown in "Naked Spur" and "Man from Laramie," but in both of them, like the other three, he is riled by affronts from others who impinge on him as he is trying to mind his own business.
		Ruth Roman in that is less wooden than Janet Leigh in "The Naked Spur" or Cathy O'Donnell in "Man from Laramie" or Julie Adams in "Bend of the River." Shelley Winters surpasses this weak female competition in "Winchester '73," which is probably the tightest of the five.

		Similarly the climax which takes place next to the raging torrents of a Colorado river overflowing after the rains is framed by the rush and roar of the water, and it is here that the most violent emotions of the film are displayed.
		The Naked Spur is filled with powerful scenes like these and leaves the impression of a monumental moral drama with a tough, realistic sense of human morality.
