He told me he'd been on a film with an ill-behaved star who - to lighten the mood, or in a transport of jollity - took to dancing, in combat boots, on the roof of the propmaster's brand-new Mercedes.
We enjoy films because of the work of the identifiable, the actors, and could not enjoy them but for the work of the anonymous, the crew.
The guilds and unions in the American film industry are still strong, and have the clout (in theory) to protect their workers against the depredations of management, and against their own love of the Job.

In the story he becomes enwrapped in the plight of the kingdom of Fantasia, which is being devoured by the vast void of Nothing.
The film seems to reverse these metaphors - only half of the book is adapted for one - and it instead reaches an astonishingly banal ending where the hero materializes his luckdragon out of the book to deal with his tormenting bullies.
There were two terrible sequels, The Neverending Story II: The Second Chapter (1990) and The Neverending Story III (1994).

 Neverending story - Film - www.smh.com.au
The story is a mix of naive romance and grim tale of moral degradation: on the eve of his wedding to mad Queen Regina V of Kronberg, Prince Wolfram seduces a convent girl (Swanson).
However, one-third of the way through the story, Kennedy and Swanson pulled the plug on the production, worried about the increasing budget and filming delays, and disturbed by the lurid turn that the film was taking.
The director worked for two years on the film, immersing himself with a team of researchers in a minute analysis of the Napoleonic era, developing a day-by-day account of court life and a catalogue of 15,000 images.

DVD Review: Neverending Story 2: The Next Chapter
After the original "Neverending Story" gained an even wider cult following after its massively successful theatrical release in 1984, it became apparent that a sequel might not be out of the question.
The film's special effects should have been improved at this point, compared to what was available during the original picture, but they really haven't.
Still, the film is at least mildly watchable for the most part, but pales in comparison to the original.

 DVD Review: Neverending Story
As for the group I've mentioned, "Story" remains one of the best of the breed, a suprisingly creative and inspiring picture that remains as enjoyable for adults as it does for children.
The film stars Barret Oliver as Bastian, a small boy who is attacked by bullies on his way to class and ends up in a bookstore.
Unfortunately, "Neverending Story" has not gotten the special edition that it deserved; it would have been really nice to hear from Petersen and those involved.

Bastian's metamorphosis from a selfish schoolboy to a worshipped, egotistical weilder of Auryn in Fantastica to, finally, a humble, appreciative son is as magical as the rest of the novel.
The Neverending Story, by Michael Ende, is a wonderful departure from the ordinary, and a classic childhood fantasy story, with imaginary creatures, and a child's utopia turned to a dystopia.
This love of stories and the magic they bring is the reason why he runs off with "The Neverending Story", the large volume he finds in Mr Coreander's old book store.

The Neverending Story is one of my favorite films and I have seen more times than I can recall at the moment.
One of the things that I enjoyed the most about this film was the incredible artist freedom and creativity which was used to create the fictional world of Fantasia in which Rock Munchers, talking snails and various other creatures co-exist.
This film is a true feast for the eyes and the mind and I would recommend this movie to anyone, young or old, who enjoys science fiction.

The Neverending Story is not only a perfect example of children's filmmaking at its best but an enduring work that remains as fresh and exciting as when it first appeared in 1984.
As he follows Atreju's seemingly hopeless adventures, Bastian begins to realize that he, too, is part of the story, and, in the end, it is he who must find the courage to believe and save Fantasia from total annihilation.
He makes no attempt to sweeten the darker aspects of the story, letting Atreju lose his beloved horse in the muck of the Swamp of Sadness and then fail his quest as his world flies into shards.

Her plan is to essentially erase Fantasia and its inhabitants with a creeping emptiness, a variation on the first film's theme of The Nothing eliminating Fantasia —; and human imagination and warmth in general.
The special effects, set design and costumes are first-rate and the story, despite looking at times more like a remake than a sequel, is well-structured.
The desire to revive theatrical animated shorts must be applauded, but in practice this Bugs Bunny cartoon pales a bit in comparison to that other rabbit — the one working for Disney and Spielberg.

Like The Last Unicorn, *The Neverending Story* is one of the most spiritually genuine films I have ever seen.
While the story in both film and book(s) has a powerful mythic feel and a genuine epic hero, the story also shares a philosophy about the relationship between consciousness and reality itself, not unlike the theorized Collective Unconscious of C.
There is not much on the internet about this wonderful film, due no doubt to the badly done film sequels.
