Kikizo | PS2 Review: Shadow of the Colossus
Initially named "Wanda and the Colossus," the game was designed to include tidbits of the ICO storyline, and while not necessarily a complete sequel, fans of ICO will immediately find themselves in familiar territory.
Colossus represents an intriguing - albeit somewhat bizarre - graphical dichotomy, in that there is a lack of focus, diverse color, and defined clarity combined with outstanding detail.
The game allows you to hit L1 that "focuses on a Colossus," and if this is the case, the auto-centering camera should've been discarded when climbing around on a Colossus; this way, you wouldn't be battling the camera for placement nearly as much.

Colossus of Rhodes - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This drawing of Colossus of Rhodes, which illustrated The Grolier Society's 1911 Book of Knowledge, is probably fanciful, as it is unlikely that the statue stood astride the harbour mouth.
The Colossus of Rhodes was a giant statue of the god Helios, erected on the Greek island of Rhodes by Chares of Lindos between 292 BC and 280 BC.
It was roughly the same size as the Statue of Liberty in New York, although it stood on a lower platform.

The poem "The New Colossus" by Emma Lazarus was engraved on a bronze plaque in 1903, after Lazarus' death, and 20 years after it was written.
New bars of stainless steel bent into matching shapes replaced the iron bars, with Teflon film separating them from the skin for further insulation and friction reduction.

Telegraph | News | New Colossus of Rhodes will keep watch on drunken Britons
More than two millennia after it was toppled by an earthquake, the Colossus of Rhodes - one of the seven wonders of the ancient world - is to rise again.
Few details are known of the original Colossus of Rhodes, which was built by a local sculptor between 304 and 292BC and whose face was reputedly modelled on that of Alexander the Great.
His designs resemble a male counterpart to the New York landmark, itself supposedly an echo of the Colossus, and the completed statue will bear a crown and carry a torch.

 EDSITEment - Lesson Plan
Whether accidental or intentional, the emphasis in "The New Colossus" on immigration expresses a prescient view: today the Statue of Liberty continues to greet new immigrants and embodies opportunity and freedom for those seeking a better life in America.
In New York City, wealthy patrons of the arts were reluctant to support the venture, and the middle classes felt that contributing to the statue was the responsibility of the rich; others wondered whether the money might not be better spent in aid of the poor.

Reviews | The Colossus of New York: A City in 13 Parts by Colson Whitehead
The collection of 13 short prose pieces is a kind of roman a clef in which well-known elements of New York, like Broadway, JFK and the Port Authority act as the natural environment of a nameless, and ever-changing, cast of ghostlike characters.
Like New York street life itself, these people exist only in the few fleeting moments they are observed by others, before disappearing back into the mass anonymity of the city's glass canyons.
The New York City you live in is not my New York City; how could it be?" All New Yorkers, whether transplants or native born, carry with them a sense of ownership for this untamable place, a feeling that they own a little piece of the whole that they horde and keep like a secret.

Lazarus's poem   (Site not responding. Last check: )
In fact, Lazarus' sonnet to the Statue of Liberty was hardly noticed until after her death, when a patron of the New York arts found it tucked into a small portfolio of poems written in 1883 to raise money for the construction of the Statue of Liberty's pedestal.
As a member of New York's social elite, Emma Lazarus enjoyed a privileged childhood, nurtured by her family to become a respected poet recognized throughout the country for verses about her Jewish heritage.
In "The New Colossus," Lazarus contrasts the soon-to-be installed symbol of the United States with what many consider the perfect symbol of the Greek and Roman era, the Colossus of Rhodes.

Vintage Catalog | The Colossus of New York by Colson Whitehead
Whitehead’s style is as multilayered and multifarious as New York itself: Switching from third person, to first person, to second person, he weaves individual voices into a jazzy musical composition that perfectly reflects the way we experience the city.
There is a funny, knowing riff on what it feels like to arrive in New York for the first time; a lyrical meditation on how the city is transformed by an unexpected rain shower; and a wry look at the ferocious battle that is commuting.
The plaintive notes of the lonely and dispossessed resound in one passage, while another captures those magical moments when the city seems to be talking directly to you, inviting you to become one with its rhythms.
