Star Trek - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Star Trek: Voyager (also known as ST:VOY, ST:VGR, VOY or Voyager) was produced for seven seasons, and is the only Star Trek series to have had a female, Captain Kathryn Janeway, as the commanding officer.
Star Trek II, IV, VI and Star Trek: First Contact are usually considered the fan-favorites, while Star Trek I and V are usually at the bottom (though I has since received quite a bit of positive re-evaluation in the wake of an acclaimed "Director's Edition" revision released on DVD).
Currently, Star Trek: Hidden Frontier which is a continuation of the timeline after the Dominion War, from the perspective of the a station and fleet in the Briar Patch as well as Star Trek: New Voyages, a "continuation" of the original Star Trek, are prominent fan series.

Nexus (Star Trek) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Nexus is a spatial anomaly that exists in the fictional universe of Star Trek and was key to the plot of the film Star Trek: Generations.
This theorizing with regard to The Nexus about whether "reality" has been restored or whether to which degree it is altered, is similar to the various instances in Star Trek when, due to time travel, the time line may have been altered permanently from a certain episode onwards.
His experience in the Nexus has him believing he left with Kirk and saved the Enterprise from destruction, when in fact, everything that happens in Star Trek: The Next Generation after this is merely his ideal universe.

Filmtracks: Star Trek: Generations (Dennis McCarthy)
Star Trek VII: Generations: (Dennis McCarthy) Sandwiched in between Star Trek VI and First Contact, this score has become lost in the transitory phase between the original series films and the next generation films.
In Star Trek VI, Cliff Eidelman constructed a dark and menacing base string and male chorus motif to signal the presence of the evil Klingons; his motif began the score, rumbled at the appropriate times throughout, and drove a section of the end credits.
Overall, I consider this the weakest of the "modern" Trek scores (and I consider the switch from traditional Trek scores to the modern ones occuring someplace in between Star Trek V and Star Trek VI, when the super surround-sound element of the films began to enhance the music).

The Fascist Ideology of Star Trek -- and Firefly, the Anti-Trek
Star Trek typically reflects certain political, social, and metaphysical views, and on close examination they are not worthy of the kind of tribute that is often paid to Star Trek as representing an edifying vision of things.
Star Trek has a Utopia to picture, or at least a world free of many of the ills perceived in the present, but it doesn't have to deal with anything so inconvenient as the experience of history.
Star Trek is free to disparage religious belief and ignore traditional religions without the need to address the existential mysteries and tragedies of real life in ways that have actually meant something to the vast majority of human beings.

Star Trek Soundtracks: Symphonic Star Trek   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-19)
I have written elsewhere that what I believe has contributed to the longevity of Star Trek is, as described by the omnipotent prankster "Q," a fascination with the "unknown possibilities of existence." Courage's unaccompanied horn theme reappears throughout both episodes and movies.
And we must remember that Star Trek, is, after all, science fiction, and everything, including the science, is merely, as Gene Roddenberry said when referring to the Enterprise, "a vehicle for storytelling." The cosmic themes touched on in the series—love, hate, passion, joy, fear—are essential to the success of the series.
Let us hope that as the sounds of Star Trek make their way at light-speed through the galaxy, that we on earth are still here to explore the awesome possibilities that nature holds out for us to discover.

Star Trek has always had trouble dealing with the supernatural (they are far better when they deal with natural pretenders at supernatural identity), and would be well advised to stay clear of it in the future.
