The Northern Pikes were founded in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan in 1983 out of the relics of such three Canadian prairie bands, The Idols, Seventeen Envelope, and Doris Daye.
The band released two self-financed independent albums: 'The Northern Pikes' and 'Scene In North America' that attracted the attention of Virgin Records Canada who were in the process of expanding into Canada and looking for some Canadian acts to sign to the label.
All of the band's hit singles are included on this album along with three previously unreleased tracks and two live songs from their independent days recorded in 1993.

The Pikes third album Snow In June saw the blossoming of Bryan as a singer and writer, most notably for the hit single "She Ain't Pretty".
The Pikes are currently touring in support of the album, and always recording new songs.

The Pikes honed their skills by playing live, catching the eye and ear of Virgin Records president Doug Chappell, who signed the Northern Pikes to a multi-album record deal with Virgin Records in 1986.
The Pikes’ first major label album, Big Blue Sky, was released in 1987 and featured remixes of five songs from their earlier independent releases.
After their break up, the Northern Pikes continued to remain in contact, and in November of 1999 released Hits and Assorted Secrets, a "greatest hits" package which included new edits and remixes of past hits, as well as 3 previously unreleased songs.

These guys remind me an awful lot of Canadian band The Northern Pikes, a band that I always thought were one of the best at doing the folk / rock / alt-country thing.
These two guys are always going to bring the best out in a band, and The Forresters haven't let them down.
The Forresters seem primarily to be a vehicle for the songwriting talents of Anthony Bautovich from The Orange Humble Band.
