Nuggets: Original Artyfacts From the First Psychedelic Era is a compilation album of garage rock from the mid- to late 1960s, assembled by Jac Holzman, founder of Elektra Records.
Nuggets gained credence with rock music critics and was on the Rolling Stone "Top 200 Albums" list.
In 2004, Rhino revived the Nuggets name once again for two new compilations, Hallucinations: Psychedelic Pop Nuggets from the WEA Vaults and Come to the Sunshine: Soft Pop Nuggets from the WEA Vaults.

That weekend, the band got a copy of their demo to a local radio station just in time to get it played on the air that Sunday night, on Joe's Garage.

There are now hundreds of garage compilations available, and every band that ever pressed 50 copies of their catchiest Beatles steal to sell after their weekly pizza parlor gig has seen their scratchy little classic unearthed and re-released on some enterprising record collector's semi-legal basement label.
Beginning with high school bands caught up in Beatlemania, they show what happened as these groups tried to keep up with the tidal waves of innovation (by the Beatles, the Byrds, the Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds) that were upending pop music almost weekly.
Frat party bands bought fuzzboxes and dropped ersatz ragas into their guitar solos, all the while remembering that their main job was to keep the crowd dancing.

The band were at their peak at the time, just prior to "Family Entertainment" which I eagerly snapped up on the day of release.
Always at the sharp end of their many line-ups was that crazed master vocalist Roger Chapman, a constant source of fierce energy forever whipping himself, the band and the audience to higher peaks of committment, excitement and total immersion in the music.
Despite my devotion to this man and his magic band I somehow managed to miss out on his and Charlie's mature period with Streetwalkers but the news of Chapman's renaissance early this year came as a rush of adrenalin to my jaded British outlook.

It’s the perfect setting for a ’60s garage band to be rehearsing in: a quiet residential street in western Peabody, with freshly cut grass and a few suburbanites walking their dogs — heck, it’s just like the Monkees’ " Pleasant Valley Sunday.
But the group rehearsing are a genuine ’60s garage band: they’re called the Monks, and they played all over Boston and the North Shore between 1965 and 1970.
Delp recalls that in the early ’70s, he was involved in two projects: a post-Monks band with guitarist Bob Hayes and a project with guitarist/keyboardist Tom Scholz, who was making demos in his home studio.

These days we are witnesing another nugget-mania, this time caused by a Nuggets 2 compilation, again over 300 minutes of garage rock this time of bands outside USA, mostly from UK, but also from Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and Latin America.

The band released a howling debut single, "Open Up Your Door," that was a regional smash in markets across the country, including Detroit, Cleveland and Seattle.
The band was stable once again, and its glory days were just beginning: "Open Up Your Door" was taking off in the markets where it had been released.
He admits that back in the '60s, the band never got the support it deserved from SCC Productions, which was preoccupied by Valli and Ryder, and didn't consider Richard and the Young Lions -- whose raw sound was unlikely to generate huge sales -- a priority.

The band members and their families have used the tapes I have made for fun, for self-criticism, and even to a point as demos (they have released 3 studio albums, but it was important for certain venues or labels to hear the band live).
However, other factors include the sound of the band in the room, the amount of crowd noise on the tape (a little bit it good for realism-but not so much that it disrupts the music), and my ability to place the mics correctly and adjust the mix if necessary.

 Nuggets Review
Secondly, these garage bands upset the unspoken rock hierarchy, proving that one didn't have to be a genius like Dylan or Hendrix to make great rock'n'roll -- that in fact, some of the greatest rock'n'roll was the product of a gang of ordinary guys with no more than amplifiers and a six-pack in the basement.
So Nuggets most importantly testifies to what a unique time the mid-'60s were musically, thematic sex/class/race/societal pressures issues aside -- the best of these tracks stumble across the perfect median between arty and raw, in a way that the definitely more one-dimensional punk that emerged a decade later rarely achieved.
They did manage to appear regularly on a TV show as a house band, though, and had a great visual gimmick in their drummer, Moulty, whose loss of his hand (replaced by a pirate's hook) is narrated in this corny novelty number.
