		To be fair, the film is so over-the-top in its comic excesses that it rubs much of the sting off the humor.
		Aurally speaking, 'The Nutty Professor' is a bright, clean movie, with lots of lively sound effects (usually the sound of farts, or clothes popping out of their seams).
		'The Nutty Professor' attempts to be a sweet, good-natured comedy about acceptance and tolerance, yet ironically it revels in crass fat jokes at the expense of its characters.

	SCREEN IT! ARTISTIC REVIEW: NUTTY PROFESSOR II: THE KLUMPS
		Comedy: An overweight professor's attempts to rid his body of his nasty alter-ego leads to serious repercussions, especially when that persona physically manifests himself and sets out to ruin the amiable scientist.
		Thus, an actor could perform on the exposed side, the film would then be rewound and the lens covering reversed, and that performer would then act his other part on the other half of the film and then appear to play opposite themselves in the same scene.
		Although the film only contained two scenes of Murphy playing various versions of the Klump family, they were among the favorite and best-remembered moments from that picture.

		This time around, Professor Sherman Klump once again finds himself battling against his testosterone-driven alter-ego Buddy Love, but this time Buddy has escaped Sherman's body and he is determined to gain the profits from the youth serum that Klump has developed.
		Those familiar with the first film will know what to expect from Papa, Mama, Grandma Klump (whose screen-time is greatly increased in the sequel) and company, and it is the constant bickering between this family that is the highlight of this new film, as it was in the first.
		It was extremely wise of the distributor (U.I.P) of Nutty Professor 2 to wait until the school holidays to release this film as it is the teenage audience who will appreciate this film the most.

		The dinner scene in Nutty came across as a pointless stunt while the additional Klump material in the sequel meshed naturally and entertainingly with the story.
		Unfortunately, the rest of The Nutty Professor seemed less compelling to me. Had I not become so fond of its sequel, I may look upon it more positively, but since I think Klumps was a much more fun and entertaining piece, I found it tough to sit through the original.

		The film worked because of its then-rauchy humor, genuine sweetness, and the ability of Murphy to star in not one, not two, but a dozen diverse roles.
		Ultimately, not only is the film unfunny--and shockingly, drowse-inducingly so--but its screenplay, by Barry W. Blaustein, David Sheffield, Paul Weitz, and Chris Weitz, is a haphazard blend of jumbled, incomprehensible storytelling and humor that falls flat on literally every occasion.
		If anything, "Nutty Professor II" should thank its lucky stars that "Battlefield Earth" was released earlier in the summer, because if not for that motion picture debacle, I would have finally found the summer movie to beat in terms of its utter badness.
