Central to Objectivist ethics is the concept of "value." Rand defined value as "that which one acts to gain and/or keep." The rational individual's choice of values to pursue is guided by his need, if he chooses to live, to act so as to maintain and promote his own life.
An Objectivist respects the rights of other human beings out of the recognition of the value to himself or herself of living in a world in which the freedom of action of other rational (or potentially rational) human beings is respected.
The Objectivist theory of art flows fairly directly from its epistemology, by way of "psycho-epistemology" (Objectivism's term for the study of human cognition as it involves interactions between the conscious and the subconscious mind).

A Public Statement on The Objectivist Center
Although I've never been directly involved with TOC's cultural activism, my very public involvement with and support of TOC over the years connects me to it, much to my all-too-frequent embarrassment and dismay.
Such is why I do not regard the persistent problems at TOC as fundamentally due to poor management, insufficient funds, meager talent pool, or whatnot.
Also, my involvement with and support of TOC over the years has been so public that a similarly public departure is warranted for the sake of clarity.

Objectivist Clubs and the Four Basic Human Needs
Today, organizations like the Center for Inquiry (CFI) have a broad range of self-styled "freethinkers" such as animal rights radical Peter Singer shaping their content and conduct.
Sharp disagreements with ARI management over both content and presentation schemes led David Kelley and his friends to form the Institute for Objectivist Studies (IOS) in 1989, now called The Objectivist Center (TOC).
A global Objectivist club network needs to stand apart from both religious and secular organizations with its comprehensive yet fully secular and rationally egoistic philosophy.
