		Spawned by the Washington, DC, USA underground of the early 80s, the Obsessed were ranked alongside Minor Threat and Bad Brains in the vicinity, yet never made the immediate transition to nationwide renown that those two outfits achieved.
		Though more obviously metal-inclined than either, notwithstanding odes to mysticism and Black Sabbath riffs, the Obsessed - Scott "Wino' Weinrich (vocals, guitar), Mark Laue (bass) and Ed Gulli (drums) - proved influential to two rival camps of supporters, who could be delineated by the length of their hair.
		Towards the end of this stint, Saint Vitus's German label, Hellbound, approached Weinrich about the now-legendary Obsessed demos, and an eponymous album was released in 1990 (also referred to as The Purple Album).
