Basically, the Office is a comedy programme shown on BBC 2 that poses as a mock "fly on the wall" documentary about office Life.
He is the scourge of offices and factories up and down the country - the awful boss who cracks terrible jokes, thinks he is god's gift to women and can still be one of the lads.
The Office was the surprise comedy hit of last year, a spoof documentary set in the Slough offices of a paper merchant called Wernham Hogg, which was so true to life that it was exceptionally difficult for the first episode or so to tell if we were actually seeing a real documentary or not.

Pope.y2u.co.uk - The Office of Pope
The office of the Pope is informally called the Papacy and formally called the Pontificate; his ecclesiastical jurisdiction is called the Holy See (Sancta Sedes).
Early bishops of Rome were designated "vicar (representative) of Peter"; for later Popes the more authoritative "vicar of Christ" was substituted; this designation was first used by the Roman Synod of AD 495 to refer to Pope Gelasius I, an originator of papal supremacy among the patriarchs.
They also argue that not even the worst of the corrupt popes used the office to try to rip the doctrine of the Church from its apostolic roots, and that this is evidence that the office is divinely protected.

Blogcritics.org: DVD Review: The Office Season One
While the US version of The Office doesn't quite live up to its British counterpart--and there's no shame in that since the original easily stands as one of the best five or ten comedies of the past decade--the six episodes of season one are remarkably good in its own right.
Rainn Wilson plays Dwight Schrute (Gareth in the UK version), a geeky and obnoxious office brown-noser who constantly has to be reminded by Scott that he is not the Assistant Regional Manager, but Assistant to the Regional Manager.
The most remarkable thing about the American version of The Office is that it is able to pull off the same terrific sleight of hand that made the British version so special: it's realistic enough that we simultaneously care about and feel deeply embarrassed for the characters.
