The Offspring (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Offspring is the debut album by The Offspring.
It was later re-issued and released on CD for the first time on November 21, 1995 on Nitro Records and also on Epitaph Records, with a new album cover but otherwise identical.
Album pressings after June 26, 2001 (July 16 in the UK) lack the song "Kill the President", the reason for the removal is still unknown but the main speculation is that the lead singer and label owner Dexter Holland believed it might cause political tensions.

The Offspring - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Offspring recruited Josh Freese to record the drums for Splinter and later announced that Atom Willard would be the official replacement for Ron Welty, however his name remained absent from the album credits.
The band is currently recording tracks for their eighth album, with a planned release date of sometime in 2006 or 2007.
The re-release of the album had a different cover due to the increasing popularity of The Offspring as well as the number of expensive, poor quality bootlegs that were being sold to fans.

 CanEHdian.com: The Offspring
When The Offspring first emerged with their 1994 release Smash, they were widely criticized as punk-wannabe's who had no place in either the punk or pop worlds.
The same fans have since brought the band to superstar status, buying millions of their albums and ensuring the constant airplay of the band in both mainstream radio and music television.
The scale of that album's release is perhaps unprecedented in the genre's history.

Although their first album, The Offspring was very similar to late 1980’s punk, the next albumIgnition”, saw them move from the traditional punk, heading into the punk of the mid-1990’s with songs like “Dirty Magic”.
On each album, The Offspring always tend to have a couple of songs based on social/political subject matter, a testament to their punk roots.
Although “Smash” was the album that originally brought The Offspring into commercial success and wide recognition, it was the release of “Pretty Fly (for a white guy)” from the 1998 albumAmericana” which established the band as a regular feature on MTV and established The Offspring as a regular chart presence.

The Offspring are part of a coterie of American bands born in the 80s and nurtured on British and Californian punk, who successfully repackaged it for middle America and the rest of the world.
Offspring would never be able to write those sorts of songs, let alone concentrate long enough to play them.
Fans of his power-drilling vocals on Offspring hits (such as "Hit That," "Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)" and "Come Out and Play (Keep'em Separated)" will be shocked to learn that, as a kid fresh out of high school, he came dangerously close to enlisting in the Air Force.

The Offspring - Ignition Review - sputnikmusic
Ignition is The Offspring’s second full length studio release and their first released on a compact disc (Debut released on vinyl then reissued in 1995).
The production of this album is not as good as their later albums obviously, but is still well done.
Which leads to the downside of this album is that it can get a little repetitive after a while as many songs do sound similar at first or even after a while.

 The Offspring: Album Reviews
Like NIN, the Offspring preserve the essential ingredients of their chosen genre--guitars grinding out three chords, shouted vocals, and plenty of vitriol--and layer them over a melodic base that packs considerable popular appeal.
The singles from Smash, the Offspring's breakthrough album, still receive considerable radio airplay: "Gotta Get Away," "Come Out and Play," and "Self Esteem." With these and Smash's 11 other tracks, the band chronicles the adolescent experience with clarity and surprisingly incisive wit.
That pretty much describes all of their albums, but this is the one to get.

Their latest album is more of the same, a witty blend of bubble-gum rock and Ramones-style punk with infectious melodies and a few funny turns of phrase.
The Offspring are at their best with tongue-in-cheek tunes like their hit "Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)" or mixing punk with quirky melodies like "Come Out and Play." "Splinter" bears that out.
The only thing that could have made the album more enjoyable would be if they had stuck with their original plan and named it "Chinese Democracy," after the long-awaited, probably never to be finished, Axl Rose album.

While a source close to Guns says a letter from Rose's camp warning the Offspring not to use the album title was sent earlier this year, an Offspring spokesperson denied the existence of such a letter.

Nothing on the album matches the incessant catchiness of the singles, but Smash is a solid record, filled with enough heavy riffs to keep most teenagers happy.
