	The Only Ones - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The Only Ones were an influential English rock and roll band in the late 1970s who were associated with punk rock, yet straddled the musical territory in between punk, power pop and hard rock, with noticeable influences from psychedelia.
		The Only Ones were originally formed in August 1976 by Peter Perrett.
		The Only Ones have been very influential on the indie rock and alternative rock scenes ever since, on bands such as The Replacements, Blur and Nirvana, and more recently The Libertines and Blink-182.

		LPs The Only Ones '78 and Even Serpents Shine '79 showcased Perrett's tortured, Lou Reed-style vocals; never punks, they derived much from USA glam-rock.
		Compilation Special View was issued in USA, where Baby's Got A Gun '80 was their most successful album (top 40 LP), but the writing was on the wall with last-chance single 'Fools', a Perrett duet with Penetration vocalist Pauline Murray on an untypical C&W- flavoured tune.
		Perrett was a heroin addict whose strange lyrics were messages to the cognoscenti; he effectively left music but began to recover: EP Cultured Palate '94 was followed by Woke Up Sticky '96 on Demon as Peter Perrett and the One, sounding unchanged, lyrics reflecting on the lost years.

		The Only Ones (which includes that stupendous number) is the best of the three original albums.
		Although finally realizing simultaneous release in the US and the UK with the Colin Thurston-produced Baby's Got a Gun, the Only Ones' commercial success was still too slight to sustain them, and they called it quits in 1981.

		The Only Ones remain one of the sadly under-rated bands of all time.
