Comic Book Resources - CBR News - The Comic Wire
To celebrate the "reload" of DC Comics' Superman franchise, CBR News will be running interviews with numerous Superman creators through March, from writer Jeph Loeb to Editor Eddie Berganza, in preparation for April's exciting Superman events.
"Imagine Superman comics were beginning today and you could get in from the very beginning, reading the first adventures of a Man of Steel reinvented from top to bottom to reflect today's world and today's sensibilities," says Waid of the basics of the high-profile "Superman: Birthright" maxi series.
He's quite possibly the biggest Superman fan on the planet and considering DC Comics has dubbed 2004 "The Year Of Superman," Mark Waid is excited about a lot, especially completing his vision of Superman.

 Reference.com/Encyclopedia/Krypton (planet)
In the 2004 comic miniseries Superman: Birthright, a new retelling of Superman's origin and early years, Mark Waid depicted a Krypton with elements of the pre- and post-Crisis versions of Krypton, but closer to the pre-Crisis version.
The first and second versions, appearing in the Golden Age and Silver Age comics, developed gradually over the course of nearly fifty years of Superman adventures in comic books, radio, television, and prose stories, from Superman's debut in 1938 until his origin revision in 1986.
One Superman story from the 1950s that asked the question, "What if Krypton had not exploded?", depicted life in a setting that epitomized the cliche of the "future" as seen in science fiction stories of the time.

Superman's daily martyrdom is reflected tellingly in print during his reappearance in the 1996 miniseries Kingdom Come, where he is pictured as a bearded carpenter with a long beam of wood across his back, mirroring a Christ-like image of a man who gave himself for a world that, in that storyline, did not love him.
