When Cadwallader Washburn died, he left a sum of money to build an orphanage to be named the Washburn Memorial Orphan Asylum in memory of his mother.
The "call" letters for WCCO stand for Washburn Crosby Company.
The orphanage was built on 50th and Nicollet Avenue in south Minneapolis which was in the country in the late 1800's.
