The Oski Yell - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Oski Yell is the UC Berkeley spirit yell from which Berkeley's mascot, Oski the Bear, derives his name.
Although Oski appeared in 1941, the yell was first performed around the turn of the 20th century.
The yell's origins are uncertain, although the University of Illinois (which performed the yell with a different last line) has laid claim to it.

11.10.99 - Original Oski Recalls Mascot’s Glory Days
Oski, Berkeley's first human-bear mascot, emerged from a long hibernation for an interview recently submitted to the Regional Oral History Office at Bancroft Library.
Since Oski was "born" in the patriotic pre-war days, there has been an aura of secrecy around the mascot.
He said it should be in keeping with the legacy of the creator of Oski, whom he described as "probably the shyest man I ever met." Oski remains the only mascot in America whose identity is not known to crowds and student bodies, and the anonymity serves him well, Permaul said.

Oski has been known to become impassioned, and, based on his tackling of the tree in 1995, he could teach Cal’s Donnie McCleskey a thing or two.
Stanford’s group of red jumpsuits can make no such claim this year, though by sheer force of numbers (there are 10 yell leaders to Cal’s 3), they most likely could muster up a bigger response from their team.
Apparently, though, Stanford has been known to boo its yell leaders this season, a poor testament to their leadership abilities, and the students instead look to the megaphone-brandishing yellers in their sweaters for inspiration.

Oski and his fans worldwide will be saddened to hear of the passing of two of Oski’s closest associates, Bill Rockwell ’48 and George Heuer ’51.
Oski’s popularity took its toll on Rockwell’s academic standing, however; and, after a particularly discouraging midterm grade in mechanical engineering 102 in the spring of 1942, he took the Key System interurban F train to the San Francisco Ferry Building and enlisted in the Navy.
Although persuaded to resume his Oski career, he was far-sighted enough to lay the groundwork for an orderly process of passing on Oski’s lore to succeeding generations.
