Buffy Summers, The Chosen One, arrives in Sunnydale, California trying to forget all the talk about her destiny and the vampires, only to discover that the quiet, small American town sits atop a Hellmouth and a master vampire is about to be brought forth.
Buffy's reference to her mother acting "Stepford" is an interesting movie reference; in "The Stepford Wives", all of the wives in the town were replaced with robots to make the "perfect" wives, whereas in this episode, Ted is a robot whose purpose is to be the perfect husband.
Buffy and the gang track down a suspected werewolf roaming in the woods and also try to stay out of the way of a maniacal werewolf hunter, while Willow tries to get closer to Oz, unknown to her that he is the same killer they are after.
