The main islands to this group are City Island, Hart Island, Hunters Island, Twin Island, Goose Island, Davids' Island, High Island, Rat Island, the Chimney Sweeps, the Blauzes and Travers Island.
Hart Island, which is the the second largest, formerly housed a prison, but is now uninhabited, and is currently used as a potters field.
These islands were once part of the town of Pelham, but are now mostly part of The Bronx, except for David's Island and Goose Island which are part of New Rochelle.

Pelham Bay wetlands are considered a Significant Coastal Fish and Wildlife Habitat by the NYS Department of State, and a Special Natural Waterfront Area by New York City's Waterfront Revitalization Program.
As noted in the Pelham Project, specific geochemical, hydrodynamic, biological and ecological measures will be utilized to evaluate changes as a function of area and type of habitat covered and created in the process of building the containment facility.
The Pelham Project is the only proposal on the horizon which aims to intensively study the post-closure surroundings of the Pelham Bay Landfill by characterizing the geochemistry and biogeochemistry of sediments and saltmarsh  within and adjacent to the confined containment facility planned for the area around the landfill.

06/06/1893 - The Post Office in the Town of Pelham first established in 1849, then discontinued August 1860 and reestablished one month later, is "discontinued" again and mail to former patrons of the office is ordered sent to New Rochelle.
Pelham Manor was incorporated as a Village in 1891, but at the time it had only one commercial building.
There was no other store in the Village, and it could hardly qualify yet as a hamlet.

In 1874, the western portion of the present Bronx County, consisting of the towns of Kingsbridge, West Farms, and Morrisania, was transferred to New York County, and in 1895 the Town of Westchester and portions of Eastchester and Pelham, were transferred to New York County.
City Island, known as New York City's only nautical community, voted to secede from Westchester County and join New York County in 1896.
Pelham Bay Park also has a large man made public beach called Orchard Beach created by Robert Moses.

After the Pelham Conservation Commission issued an order of conditions allowing the project, a group of more than ten residents (Harry L. Adriance and others) requested that the Department deny it.
The Stormwater Management Policy states (at 5) that "[r]ooftop runoff, except for metal roofs....generally should be considered uncontaminated for the purposes of these Standards and therefore can be infiltrated directly without treatment." In describing roof runoff treatment, then, the town's wetlands permit application material furnishes more information on runoff treatment than the Policy requires.
