  Definitive Jux | The Perceptionists
Their debut as a trio, Black Dialogue, is a naturally-flowing, mind-engaging genius album, the culmination of a hell of a lot of work apart, but just as much together.
The most important thing about the Perceptionists is: this isn’t about individual members.
And the band of brothers called The Perceptionists are the ones to make that number work for 2005 and beyond.

Perceptionists do tap the White House one good time with “Memorial Day,” written from the perspective of a disgruntled soldier, with a chorus that plays up the alleged failure to find WMD in Iraq and verses between verses of disillusion that are quite similar to the words of real veterans of this war and others.
Perceptionists are surely the only group ever to boast cameos by Guru on one track ("Party Hard”) and Humpty Hump on the next (“Career Finders”), which should go down as one of the best Hump riffs to date: “Ok, let’s see Mr.

The Perceptionists - PopMatters Concert Review
I was seeing the Perceptionists in Indianapolis, which, as you might imagine, isn't exactly a hotbed of underground rap aficionados.
When the Perceptionists came onstage around 8:30, most of the bodies in the building were stowed away in the back or up in the balcony, asses firmly planted in chairs or, if standing, within arm's length of the nearest bar.
Lif created an invisible noise gauge, for which his hand was the needle, and the louder the audience screamed, the higher in the air went his hand.

The Perceptionists' MC remembers sitting in a Chinese restaurant in John Kerry's home town of Boston on Election Day 2004 and being "almost oblivious" to what was going on with what many were calling the most important election of his lifetime.
And braggadocio battle tracks such as "Frame Ruptures" perfectly complement the Perceptionists' live shows, which seethe with the kind of vitality and polish that are generally lacking in hip-hop, underground or independent.
In addition to the more polemic songs and the live favorites, the Perceptionists are also able to take it down a notch and talk about the pains of unrequited love ("Love Letters"), the stress and humiliation of menial labor ("5 O'Clock") and the current state of hip-hop ("Career Finders").

On the lower right hand side of its cover, a little blurb extolled me to “‘Party Hard’ with the Perceptionists”; the hip-hop collective (I hate that word) are this week’s headliners for the Voice’s Choices pull-out section.
