Topic: The Perfect Storm

The Perfect Storm, A storm chasers dream
The Perfect Storm for tornado and storm chasers would be one where it is a slow moving storm, with many long lived tornadoes in a low precipitation enviroment away from any populated area but great roads, oh and no hail.
Called The Perfect Storm because it was three storms combined into one — created an almost apocalyptic situation in the Atlantic ocean, where boats encountered waves of 100 feet (30 meters).
But when we talk about the perfect storm with tornado and storm chasing, we are talking about an event that would be easy to film up close, that drops many tornadoes over several hours.

DVD Review - The Perfect Storm   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
The sheer force and scope of the storm quickly lets you forget that you are watching special effects and turns the film into a tribute to these and all other fishermen, who put their lives in the hands of Mother Nature every time they go out to sea.
Warner Home Video brings us "The Perfect Storm" in the movie’s original 2.35:1 widescreen aspect ratio on this DVD in a transfer that is enhanced for 16x9 television sets.
Although the track is not nearly as aggressive as I had expected, given the fierce nature of the film, the audio track nonetheless makes constant use of the discrete surround channels and uses the LFE channel to enhance the impact of the low end that is omnipresent in the track.

The Perfect Storm: Cinephiles Movie Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-05)
The Perfect Storm, directed by Wolfgang Petersen (Das Boot, Air Force One) chronicles the dramatic events that resulted from a phenomenal storm formation in the North Atlantic region in the Fall of 1991.
When Andrea Gail is at sea and it is clear that the "main event" will be her struggle with the ocean's temperament, The Perfect Storm's plot oscillates between escalating complications (mainly accidents or animosity among the fishermen) and the downslides of their respective little victories, as the complications are safely resolved.
Still, by means of careful photography and spectacular special effects, The Perfect Storm is successful in its attempt to define the ocean as being truly magnificent --or rather, perfect-- when it is most dangerous.

It is apparent to me that financial storms and perhaps "The Perfect Financial Storm" may be heading towards the U.S. economy.
When I wrote The Perfect Financial Storm last July, I saw several storm fronts developing in the economy, the stock market, and the currency market that could, like the movie, lead to The Perfect Storm.
The severity of a recession or bust is oftentimes determined by the boom that preceded it.

 The Perfect Mental Storm
We all know that the perfect mental storm is capable of sucking the life-force out of even the strongest of individuals, pummeling the victim's brain to anti-matter, and reducing one to the level of the living dead, on the brink of total death, as close to actual death without being dead.
So it is that the perfect mental storm cascades upon our inadequate psyches from all points of the compass, threatening us from whichever direction we turn with death by suicide, death by medical complications, death by noncompliance, and death by reckless behavior.
When I am in a "Perfect Mental Storm" not only are my emotional out of control but, the CP cause me more trouble it become a circle of frustration of which disease will win the first round, on, and on like.

All-Reviews.com Movie/Video Review: The Perfect Storm
Wolfgang Petersen's "The Perfect Storm," is a slam-bang, pulse-pounding action thriller that has the clear distinction of creating the most realistic and horrifying storm ever put to celluloid.
This is appropriate, of course, since it is based upon the worst storm in recorded history that fell upon the New England border in October 1991, when three weather patterns (a cold front, a low-pressure system, and a hurricane) collided.
The special effects supervisors at ILM have done a striking job bringing the storm to life, in all its horrific glory, and it is because of them that most warrants seeing it on the big screen.

It is with absolutely no doubt that the music for The Perfect Storm will certainly blow up a not-so-rogue wave of criticism from those film music fans who hear his previous works in everything new he presents.
For a new collector of film music, The Perfect Storm will likely be exciting and inspiring (four stars and no less), but for the experienced Horner collectors, the score will provide ten minutes of new, noteworthy material and the rest might either bore you or seem as unpleasant as swallowing seawater.
The thing that seperates The Perfect Storm from his other soundtracks are the themes and repetitive ideas he uses.

Meteorologists Say 'Perfect Storm' Not So Perfect
While the storm was undeniably very powerful- and dangerous to any ship venturing offshore- all the meteorologists interviewed agreed that the storm was far from being "stronger than any in recorded history," as the web site states.
A freelance journalist and author, Junger coined the phrase "the perfect storm" after a conversation with Bob Case, the 30-year veteran meteorologist who was deputy meteorologist-in-charge of the National Weather Service's Boston, Mass., forecast office at the time of the storm.
The "three storms," he said, were in fact a large high-pressure system over Canada, a low-pressure system traveling along a slow-moving cold front, and the tropical moisture from Hurricane Grace, which was dissipating at the time.
