 >>>> foxy digitalis online :: growing - the soul of the rainbow and the harmony of light <<<<
Kranky have been releasing albums of feedback drone and ambient soundscapes since the mid-nineties, and Growing may seem like just another name in a long list of drone bands like Stars of the Lid, Philosophers Stone, and Amp.
Growing move closer to the “Theater of Eternal Music” with this album than to “Earth II.” Patient listeners and fans of groups like Rh Band, the previously mentioned Birchville Cat Motel, and the (original) Dream Syndicate are advised not skip over this Kranky Records release.
This is the second full-length album for Kranky Records by Growing from Olympia, Washington.

Ultravox in their original incarnation were the philosopher's stone between new wave and punk rock.
Overall, this is a good album not only for fans of the early band, but for anyone looking for something more new wave, punk-ish, and retro to add to their collection of albums.
This album, recorded with the band's original lead singer John Foxx, falls somewhere between punk and new wave.

Ramesses, Requiem Aeturnam, Blood Red Throne
Philosopher is the band's second album and the creativity and originality here is striking.
Ramesses- We Will Lead You to Glorious Times (Dark Reign/Devil Doll) If heart stopping, cyclopian heaviness from Electric Wizard vets Mark Anthony and Tim Bagshaw don't make you stand up and take notice then you surely must be stone dead.
Due to the extensive philosophical lyrics here I feel a background on each individual song is important in understanding both the band as well as the album as a whole.

 VH1.com : Van Morrison : Biography
Morrison continued balancing the past and the future in the years to follow, alternating between new studio albums (1997's The Healing Game, 1999's Back on Top) and collections of rare and live material (1998's The Philosopher's Stone and 2000's The Skiffle Sessions and You Win Again).
Further proof of Morrison's renewed popularity arrived with the 1990 release of Mercury's best-of package; far and away the best-selling album of his career, it introduced the singer to a new generation of fans.
George Ivan Morrison was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, on August 31, 1945; his mother was a singer, while his father ardently collected classic American jazz and blues recordings.

Minority Report by John Williams @ Cinemusic
John Williams writes a score for the film that effectively does the same thing: it turns on his biggest fans and hands them a score that is decidedly atmospheric, dark and the anti-thesis of the safe, melodic, snuggle-fests of Williams' previous credits like Hook and even the recent Harry Potter and The Philosopher's Stone.
This album really is for well-rounded Williams fans (i.e., those who appreciate his approach here), and those who like their film music intense and punctuated with with dynamic flashes of fireworks ("Anderton's Great Escape" is worth the purchase alone).
Williams employs a more sparse touch with his orchestrations, utilizing small string and brass clusters bouncing off each other, punctuated by beats of silence.

mtv.com - News - Ex-Smiths Guitarist Follows Dream Snake, Finds His Voice
The band's name is a reference to a book by Russian psychic philosopher Madame Blavatsky, and the album title came to Marr in a vision.
Musically, the songs have more in common with the soporific pulse of '90s Manchester, England, bands like Stone Roses and Charlatans UK than with the sulky androgynous pop of the Smiths.
British pop artist Johnny Marr, co-founder of '80s rock group the Smiths, was in a colorful headspace when he decided to start a new band three years ago.

The Cockburn family were among the first
Four members of the Cockburn family had read and enjoyed Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone prior to the second book of the series being written and long before Harry Potter became a household name.
You discover a nice little unkown book / album / TV programme which you thoroughly enjoy, and within a decade or two suddenly everyone is saying how wonderful it is and the popular hype somehow detracts from your simple, cultured, under-stated appreciation.
So here are some examples where the Cockburn family were in (almost) from the beginning.
