At a time when rock music was shifting gears, the Plimsouls threw British Invasion into the new wave mix and permanently altered the genre.
But the Plimsouls were exceptional because they boasted the talents of singer/songwriter PeterCase.
The band formed in Los Angeles in 1978 and merged roots, retro and guitar rock with a ramshackle punk aesthetic.

The Plimsouls is an American rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1978.
The band released Everywhere At Once in 1983 and the song "A Million Miles Away" ended up on the Valley Girl motion picture soundtrack and became a minor hit for the band.
In 1996, The Plimsouls reunited for a few shows and some recording sessions, but nothing else became of it.

One CA band I loved was the Plimsouls, they had a memorable hit called "A Million Miles Away." I saw them at The Stone in SF one time, they threw down mightily.
The Plimsouls formed in 1980 and had broken up by 1984.
The record that made the deepest impression on me in this period was by Peter Case, whom I was delighted to recognize as one of the former Plimsouls.

Emulating Dylan and the itinerant bluesmen he idolized, Case hitchhiked his way across country, eventually landing in San Francisco where he was quickly drafted by Jack Lee and Paul Collins into the Nerves.

He enjoyed a find solo career after leaving The Plimsouls, but he never wrote as many spectacular songs as he did for their two albums together.

They're a young garage/rock band often compared to the early Plimsouls and the early Buzzcocks, which turned out to be good comparisons.
Just yesterday I was reading an interview in the new UNCUT with Pete Townshend, and he was emphatically stating that in his opinion, Ray Davies of the Kinks was the greatest of all the '60s bands' writers.
And about the 2nd song into their set, these very young lads tore into a smokin' version of "Come On Now" (a staple of Plimsouls' live sets) followed by "She's Got Everything" (a vastly more obscure Kinks song) and I was hooked.

Far and away the best Peter Case solo album and the only one which even approaches the greatness of his former band the Plimsouls.
This one is loaded with at least five sure-fire hits which, sadly, were drowned out on radio by dreadful Seattle sludge that was oh so popular in 1992.
Not far behind are the introspective "Last Time I Looked" and the Everlys tinged "I've Been Looking For You".

Even the musical wasteland that was the '80s did offer up a few beacons of hope, and LA power-poppers the Plimsouls were one of them.

This is perhaps the very best of the lot, and even more so for the CD's inclusion of the Plimsouls debut 12" EP as bonus tracks.
I read an album review in the Rolling Stone on The Plimsouls back in early 1980, and a few days later my roomates and I up at Colorado State University wore this recording out.
