The Weed Files - The Presidents of The United States of America
At the end of the line, Pure Frosting, the band's swan song for Columbia, included a cover of the Ian Hunter song « Cleveland Rocks,» which was used for many seasons as the theme song to the Emmy-nominated television series, The Drew Carey Show.
The band was offered several record deals, all of which they decided to walk away from in order to have more control over their music and careers, and to keep it all local.
Since the band's split in December of 1997 fans have been sending letters and e-mails urging the band to reunite and asking why they broke up in the first place.

This song is much more tightly arranged than the other two singles, and I love the fact that the band has meows in the background throughout almost the entire song.
The energy of the song proved to be infectious, and I can still remember jamming to this song with friends at one of the few high school dances I decided to grace with my presence.
In fact, the song in some ways mirrors George Carlin's infamous rants about cats ("he's circling round my ankle..."), and the bridge ("f*ck you kitty you're gonna spend the night (meowwww), "f*ck you kitty you're gonna spend the night (meowwww), "f*ck you kitty you're gonna spend the night...OUT-SIDE") has a great buildup to it.

It was the year I graduated high school, the year I began college, and the year that I first heard the quirky tunes of the Presidents.
This song had by far the most memorable music video.
Other tracks of note are the quirky, odd songs "Little Dune Buggy." That track is sparse, yet fun to listen to.

CD Baby: THE PRESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA: The Presidents Of The United States Of America - from ripe
Where the rest of their Seattle brethren traded in heavy guitars and heavy angst, the Presidents rejected torment for humor, writing short, simple, and absurd punk songs that relied more on goofy attitude than sludgy riffs and tormented screams.
The band quickly capitalized on their sudden success by releasing their second album, The Presidents of the United States of America: II, in November of 1996.
"Lump," followed by the radio hit "Kitty" in the fall and the radio/video hit "Peaches" in the spring of 1996, propelled the album to a surprise Top Ten, double-platinum status.

But before the commercial hits, he released a gem called Reasonable doubt which contained many classic songs including dead presidents 2.
This song is my favorite Jay Z song and one of the best hip-hop songs made.
Jay Z spits all sorts of amazing lyrics from an introspective look on the death of his friend to tricky similes and metaphors mixed with multi's and clever word play.

The Presidents of the United States of America (phew!) came around a time when I, and most of my peers were either punking out to Green Day or head banging to the grudge sounds of Nirvana.
The Presidents manage to pull off their wonderful, elegant blend of silly yet intellectual, on an even better level than before, in II (which I consider to be their best).
This is the Presidents' second CD; and in turn is their second best.

panopticist: The First Music Video Filmed Entirely Using Cellphones
I love this: The new video from the goofy power-pop band The Presidents of the United States of America was shot entirely using an array of Sony Ericsson cellphones.
The phones were only capable of 10 frames per second (standard video is shot at around 30 f.p.s.), and they couldn't capture quick jerky movements without pixelation, so much of the footage was shot with the band performing the song at half speed.
The song is a Weezer-ish tune called "Some Postman," and the video was directed by the Australian filmmaker Grant Marshall.

 Review (RS # 748 11/28/96)
Back with a sophomore effort titled with a nod to Chicago and Led Zepplin, and issued, it just so happens, on Election Day '96, these Presidents have never met a joke that was too broad, too obvious or too goofy to be worth a laugh.
The Presidents of the United States of America did well during their first term of celebrity, going from fleeting one-hit novelty status ("Lump") to bona fide two-hit wonderdom ("Peaches").
What's remarkable here is the lack thereof in songs such as "Tiki God," which revolves around a beloved Brady Bunch episode, "Supermodel" (no one should write a song with a title like that at this point) or "Toob Amplifier," an 82-second burst of punk-pop hookery that celebrates gear and golf clubs.

When you're listening to the whole album, you'll really begin to think this song is just about peaches and how the production of this fruit is working.
They were a silly enough band to write a song about peaches.

Drew had used it earlier in the evening and tuned it normally but it needed to be in a drop-d or something… anyways, I sang The Tuning Song while Mike tuned up.
Our intro was The Presidents - Ladies and Gentlemen Part I to start off in a nice simple acoustic and harmonic way and then we unleashed the fun and really started to rock.
Oh, this was Mike’s favorite part: When we were about to start Du Hast, he noticed that the guitar was way off tune from where it needed to be.

Formed in 1989, the band took its name from a Buzzcocks song, and originally included singer Ron Nine (born Ron Rudzitis, ex-Room Nine), guitarist Kevin Whitworth (ex-Crisis Party), bassist Jim Tillman (formerly of grunge forebears the U-Men), and Mudhoney drummer Dan Peters.
That arrived in the form of 1995's Straight Freak Ticket, after which Finn left the group to concentrate full-time on the Presidents, who had just signed with Columbia and were poised for breakout success.

Presidents of the United States of America: Love Everybody NBrid
Presidents USA burst onto the scene in 1995 with the mega-hit "Lump" (the album was originally released in 1994 on an indie label and re-released by Columbia), and followed that with "Kitty" and then of course "Peaches" (which has one of the best videos EVER!).
PUSA was upset that they were being pushed to pump out another song like "Lump." Or maybe they really did just want to spend more time with their family.
Some bands are so unique that the instant you hear a new song of theirs, you know who it's by.

Amazon.co.uk: Presidents of the USA: Music
Every song on this album is performed with the gusto of a band who love thier work, and when you realise that Peaches and Lump only scratched the surface of this album you see there is alot more to PUSA than meets the eye.
Yes there are some diverting songs on here such as "Lump" and at times "Back Porch", but while POTUSA initially appear to be not quite funny but still likeable, this is a sentiment that doesn't last.
The sad fact is that none of the stuff on here is funny so it cannot be considered to be a comedy/novelty record and the musical shortcomings show themselves after 5 or 6 listens so it can't be taken seriously either.
