  Pretty Things - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Pretty Things was preceeded by Little Boy Blue and the Blue Boys which consisted of Dick Taylor, fellow Sidcup Art College student Keith Richards and Mick Jagger.
Their early material was hard-edged blues-rock influenced by Bo Diddley (they took their name from Diddley's 1955 song "Pretty Thing" in humerous contrast to their unkempt long-haired appearance) and Jimmy Reed, much like that of their contemporaries The Stones and The Yardbirds.
The Pretty Things were among the many band and artists that employed session drummer Bobby Graham, who played on their first two albums.

A four-piece band from Salisbury had been playing as "Dirty Pretty Things" since early January of 2005, claiming to have already copyrighted the name in the UK [2]; the two groups ended up coming to an agreement over the name.
Dirty Pretty Things began recording their first album in Los Angeles, California, with high-profile producer Dave Sardy (producer of the Oasis album Don't Believe the Truth), and in Glasgow, Scotland with producer Tony Doogan.

The Pretty Things line-up began to disintegrate at the end of 1966 and the beginning of 1967, as first Brian Pendleton and then John Stax left the group.
The addition of Wally Allen and John Povey to the Pretty Things marked the beginning of a new era for the band, and the revitalised line-up went on to record some of the most compelling work of the period.

"Dirty Pretty Things" is even better than Frears's best known works, "Sammy and Rosie Get Laid" (about the lives of a couple with an open sexual relationship thrown into disarry) and "My Beautiful Launderette" (about what happens when two young friends take over a beat-up launderette) only partly from the skill of the lead actors.
Without illuminating race relations or the general economic state of Britain, "Dirty Pretty Things" focuses on the way immigrants are treated, particularly those without papers, and thus resonates throughout the prosperous Western world where Turks do the dirty work in Germany, Algerians in France, and Africans in Great Britain.
