The film is a remake of the 1977 TV movie The Prince of Central Park[1] starring Ruth Gordon and T.
Hargrave; both films were based on the novel The Prince of Central Park by Evan Rhodes.

The producers claim that "Prince of Central Park" is a modern day retelling of Huck Finn.
Not a classic film by any means, but "Prince of Central Park" does contain some rich performances, nice use of New York locations, and a unique musical score.

Alas, apart from the boy's name and the fact that he ran off to Central Park, nothing else was even remotely similar.
He's irresponsible and selfish and backed by a host of characters that I care little about, least of all the absurd Guardian, something of a second-rate Fisher King.
It would have been nice to celebrate Central Park's sesquicentennial this year with a DVD of the first movie.

If you're not seduced with the prospect of Moriarty and Turner whiskey-growling at each other in court over the boy, you're somewhere else.
