The Producers (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Producers were a new wave and power pop band from Atlanta, Georgia in the 1980s.
Kyle Henderson became a born-again Christian and left the band shortly after they were dropped to record a solo album for Kerry Livgren's Christian rock label, Kerygma Records and was replaced by future Jellyfish and Umajets bassist Tim Smith.
The Producers regained a major label contract in the late 1980s with MCA Records and recorded what was to be their fourth album, Coelacanth, but the band was one of several dropped in a 1989 label purge at MCA before the album could be released.

Members of the BU marching band found out they were going to be filmed for a scene in the film about two weeks ago, according to Chris Parks, the director of Terrier athletic bands.
Band President Jamie Teot said it was slow going in the beginning, but he said it provided a great experience.
Parks said this was irregular and that he received a call from the producers the next day confirming that the music the band had played was public domain.

In an alternate universe, he might have found it in Mel Brooks' original script for his debut feature film, a gleefully tasteless comedy in which the Fuhrer (or an unreasonable facsimile) becomes a Broadway sensation.
When that movie, The Producers, opened in 1968, it was not exactly met by a grateful public, but then Peter Sellers saw it and fell in love, going so far as to place an ad in Variety to sing its praises.

Though Martin was at first wary of the prefab band, he threw himself into the project, writing and producing the songs that—upon their ’97 re-release in the USA—would become the band’s hit singles.
Though the bands he worked with were often poles apart, what characterises all of Johns work as a producer (and engineer) is the amazing, three-dimensional warmth he brings to the arrangements; or, as one writer put it, a “hot, spacious recording that sounds like you could walk around inside of it”.
Despite the fact that most of the band (and, at times, himself) were in a drug haze during the lengthy recording sessions, on these upbeat tracks Johns conjures incredibly life-drenched performances from the band.

Instead, the Producers seem to have set out to write some catchy songs, and arrange them in such a way as to make them as catchy and enjoyable as they could possibly be.

Yet more astounding is the absence of its trademark rambunctious rhythm, a facet so blatantly underserved that the film cries out for a vivacious, go-for-broke stylist like Julie Taymor or even (dare I say it?) Rob Marshall, either of whom might have infused the action with some much-needed zany dynamism.
Time and again, however, The Producers botches its transition from the boards to the multiplex, whether it be by excising Bialystock's opening ditty "King Of Broadway" (crucial for establishing the character's inherent shadiness) or by attempting to generate madcap energy by dialing the volume up to 11.
Incapable of surmounting Stroman's shoddy stewardship, this loud, laborious, and surprisingly light on laughs film-based-on-a-musical-based-on-a-film may not be the type of monumental flop Bialystock and Bloom would have produced.

One of the first bands I ever saw that had a bald guy in it.
But besides Costello, he was behind early singles by the Damned & the Pretenders, Wreckless Eric, his own stuff, etc. So whether he was the definitive producer of a certain time is debatable, but he definitely helped guide the more songwriterly branch of punk.
And it gets overlooked, but he was probably pretty instrumental in the creation of alt-country - nobody talks about it anymore, but I'm betting Carlene Carter's MUSICAL SHAPES was the first country album lots of young punks & new wavers took the time to listen to because of Lowe and Dave Edmunds' involvement in it.

Such self-conscious moments make The Producers 2005 less successful than the original or the big Hollywood musical it wants to be, though Brooks' score shows that, even at 80, his genius isn't waning one iota.
