Great Performances . Kurosawa . THE QUIET DUEL | PBS
The most memorable part of filming THE QUIET DUEL was the shooting of the climax scene.
The reason we could do a scene like the climax of THE QUIET DUEL and get so excited and involved in what we were doing is because Mifune, Sengoku and I were all young.
It is the recognition of this fact that makes THE QUIET DUEL a picture for which I feel a great nostalgia.

It wasn't my first year being at Origins either; I had gone the three years before last year, and I was prepared, both with my deck and with my 'stuff', for a lack of a better term.
The first Duel Masters Tournament I played in had about 16 people, and that was probably the average for the few other "minor" tournaments I played in.
The next tournament I played against my friend in was the big Origins Duel Masters tournament, and I beat him, because I knew how to handle the deck, just like the judge.

The Quiet Duel on DVD (Screenhead)   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
The Quiet Duel, made in 1949, is one of Kurosawa's early films that is relatively unseen.
While The Quiet Duel can be categorized with Kurosawa's other socially concerned films, looking beyond the narrative is a critique of Japanese manners, especially the custom of indirectly addressing a concern in conversation, as well as the misplaced sense of shame.
Even if certain aspects of the narrative are questionable, The Quiet Duel shows Kurosawa under the influence of John Ford, William Wyler and especially Orson Welles, with an emphasis on depth of field cinematography.

 New York-breds Bulletin Board
With a second-placing in a Saratoga restricted N2X allowance at a mile and three-sixteenths on turf on August 12, Quiet Ruler was made the 3.25-to-1 second choice among 10 starters for Saratoga's fifth race on Saturday, a $46,000 restricted N2X allowance at a mile and a sixteenth on turf.
From there, it was a tough, close-order stretch duel, with Quiet Ruler making a late switch back to his left lead but still prevailing by half a length over 5-to-1 third choice Platinum Setting, who closed to edge out Motives by a neck.
Quiet Ruler's victory also qualified his breeder, Marlene Brody's Gallagher's Stud in Ghent, for a $2,760 breeder award.

Duel — Steven Spielberg, Dennis Weaver
Dennis Weaver, who is probably remembered most for his portrayal of cowboy sheriff Sam McCloud trapped in the filthy, disgusting mess of Lindsay-era New York on the '70s crime drama
, is adept at conveying a full range of emotion, from the quiet satisfaction of hurtling down the open road to the sheer panic of imminent death.
While his somewhat awkward voice and animated reactions can evoke more chuckles than goose bumps at times (from more immature viewers), his character is very believable and the audience can't help but share his puzzlement, fear, and elation.
