The Barber of Seville - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The story of Barber of Seville is continued in the play and Mozart opera The Marriage of Figaro, although Mozart's opera was composed first.
The opera was famously parodied by Warner Brothers in The Rabbit of Seville, a widely known Bugs Bunny cartoon.
The Barber of Seville is used in a popular analogy of the Barber paradox.

With his baby-like enunciation and tremulous voice that seems always on the verge of tears (provided by the inimitable Arthur Q. Bryant), Elmer is the hunter who can't really stomach the kill.
The pair played off each other so well that they were cast against each other in over twenty cartoons, including The Wabbit Who Came To Supper, Bugs Bonnets, the classic Rabbit of Seville, and Robot Rabbit, in which Elmer buys a robot to rid his carrot garden of the gray pest.
But Elmer never really met trouble until he tried to figure out whether it's duck or rabbit season in a trio of Chuck Jones shorts that formed a trilogy of brilliant comic dialog and animation.

Students will learn about Rossini, his opera “The Barber of Seville”, and what an overture is. Students will distinguish between different themes and demonstrate an understanding of this concept through a moving activity.
If the recording you are using is the entire overture, you will want to tell the students that in the beginning of this activity they will all be moving together.

The new issue begins with a number of short bits, including two surprisingly moving autobiographical pieces: one about a visit home in March 1999 where he learns that his motherâs cancer has come out of remission, and one about his elderly neighbors.
The remainder of the first half of this issue is composed of what appear to be scraps, leftovers, and brief experiments: we get things like an (intentionally?) carelessly-cropped six-panel strip of a hopping bunny rabbit, and a sketch of a girl in a field holding a kettle and a skull.
These shards donât contain the power of the two autobiographical pieces÷ they are basically forays into the mundane ÷but I donât feel that their inclusion here is gratuitous.

They also introduced classical music to new generations through their loving reenactments of Rossini's The Barber of Seville (as "The Rabbit of Seville") and, amazingly, the entire Ring cycle (condensed to seven minutes in "What's Opera, Doc?").
Not as expansive as the two volumes of the Carl Stalling Project, Bugs Bunny on Broadway nevertheless is a fine collection that concentrates on an oft-overlooked legacy of Bugs Bunny and company.
On tracks like "The Rabbit of Seville" the switch from the original soundtrack to the modern re-recording is both jarring and unsatisfying.

classical music - andante - what's opera, doc?
But beyond these early associations, I also suspect that Jones saw a larger parallel between classical composers' use of rhythm, melody, or harmony to engage a listener's sense of expectation, and his own aesthetic, which uses visual effects in similar ways to play upon a viewer's sense of what is coming next.
Consider, for instance, The Rabbit of Seville (1950), in which the overture to Rossini's Barber provides the scaffolding for an unforgettable contest in which musical ideas — lyrical melodies, sudden orchestral syncopations, towering Rossinian crescendo — are translated into snipping scissors, flying vegetables, spinning barber chairs, and a burlesque arms race.
If The Rabbit of Seville reveals the comedic possibilities of Rossini's overture as pantomime, What's Opera, Doc?

While light on Bob Clampett(although Clampett is represented by a couple of classic shorts)and Avery, The Golden Collection has most of the cream of the crop well represented.
Although I have to question the way these shorts are grouped, there's no doubt that Duck Dodgers, Rabbit Seasoning, Long-Haired Hare, Rabbit of Seville, Duck Amuck, Dirp-Along Daffy, The Scarlet Pumpernickel, Rabbit Fire, Deduce You Say, Scaredy Cat, Bugs Bunney Gets The Boid and many of the other shorts here deserve to be included.
Some of the highlights include Rabbit Seasoning, a cartoon in which Daffy Duck is going out of his way to see Bugs Bunny shot but dull witted hunter Elmer Fudd only to end up repeatedly getting shot himself.

However, some viewers questioned why other great cartoons like Rabbit of Seville and such were deleted.
Amongst the classic cartoons is some new animation of Bugs from Chuck Jones recalling his exploits with Daffy, Marvin Martian, Elmer Fudd(whom he referred to as E. Elmer Fudd) and Wile E. Coyote whom also has a confrontation with The Road Runner in a 20 minute montage which was also great as well.
Nor is the material always shown to its best advantage: Long Haired Hare has, unfortunately, been cut, and combining footage from several Road Runner shorts into a 20-minute montage weakens the pacing Jones built into the individual films.
