There are 450 Ramblers' groups in about 50 areas, and around 350 other affiliated bodies, such as societies especially interested in the heritage of the countryside, the Footpath Society, and local councils.
Ramblers take their turn in volunteering in advance for the list of leaders of the walks.

The New Lost City Ramblers is a contemporary old-time string band that formed in New York City in 1958 during the Folk Revival.

The Ramblers distinguished themselves by focusing on the traditional playing styles they heard on old 78rpm records of musicians recorded during the 1920s and 1930s, many of whom would later appear on the Anthology of American Folk Music.

 Hackberry Ramblers
No doubt the oldest existing Cajun music group, the Hackberry Ramblers were founded in 1930 by fiddler Luderin Darbone, who was born in January 1913 in the town of Evangeline, in Acadia Parish.
The Ramblers first recorded in 1935; its more notable works include "Quitter la maison," "Cajun Crawl," "Une piastre ici, une piastre la-bas," and their own string-band version of "Jolie blonde." Among the labels for which the group has recorded were Bluebird, Deluxe, Goldband, Arhoolie, and (in 1997) Hot Biscuits.
Today the Ramblers continue to perform at folk and music festivals, with Darbone still serving as the group’s leader.

Now in their 32nd year, the Tony Award-winning Red Clay Ramblers are a North Carolina string-band whose repertoire reflects their roots in old-time mountain music, as well as country, rock, Dixieland, bluegrass, gospel, and the American musical.
The Ramblers developed Kudzu: A Southern Musical, in collaboration with Pulitzer-winning cartoonist Doug Marlette, and staged the show at Duke in Durham, NC (Feb. '98) and Ford's Theatre in Washington, DC (Mar.-June '98).
Since mid-2001, the Ramblers' show Fool Moon ran at the Geary Theater, San Francisco (July-August '01) and their musical Lone Star Love: the Merry Wives of Windsor, Texas ran at the Ohio Theater, Cleveland, (October-November '01).
