The 12 members of the Rankin Family are from Mabou, Cape Breton on the Canadian Maritimes coast.
Their musical heritage began early as mom (piano), dad (violin) and the eldest Rankin children entertained the neighbours every third weekend as part of a ceilidh.
The Rankin Family have played several high profile concert dates including headlining the Guinness Fest in Australia and New Zealand, and a U.S. tour with a SRO concert with Mary Black at the Town Hall in New York City, plus Molly Johnson's Kumbaya Festival.

When Samuel Rankin's first son was born in 1865, he did not follow the convention of naming the baby after a grandparent, but named him Sanford after his brother.
Sanford Rankin, born 1830 in St. Helena Parish, Louisiana; died in March 1863 in Perry County, Missouri He was the son of Samuel RANKIN and Elizabeth RICHARDSON.

As a Rankin family member I have appreciated the excellent work done by Greg Moore and Forney Rankin in researching, compiling and publishing the almost 1,000 page, two volume Rankins of North Carolina.
As I began this, I realized that I should broaden the scope to allow any Rankin Family member to enjoy and contribute to this project.
I am hopeful that by publishing this work and by providing a site where users can submit additional information, that we as users can help build on the effort Please share what you like -- your information, scanned photos or pages from the family bible.
