  THE REAL CANCUN
Cancun was rushed into theatres to beat The Quest, another Spring Break doc from a competing studio was supposed to come out a couple of weeks from now (it's now been pulled from the schedule).
Cancun, not to mention the upcoming American Idol spinoff From Justin To Kelly, is our collective punishment for enjoying Jackass: The Movie so damn much.
Cancun, on the other hand, is a train wreck simply because it doesn't follow the same winning formula that makes the TV version so embarrassingly addictive.

Cancun, however, was a difficult but feasible location where real people could confront the businessmen and women who sought to increase free-trade.
This is obviously not the case, and Cancun was an especially difficult place to organize, which emphasizes the importance of many people arriving early to pitch in their effort.

Reality TV is popular for a reason which ensures The Real Cancun an audience come the time for its release on DVD.
You’ve got a real intense fight with two members of the group, some interviews with the players on some of the others, more on Alan’s escapades, an STD song that’ll have you giggling and some priceless wet t-shirt contest footage that somehow wasn’t involved in the theatrical cut.
Alan’s story is a crack up and should’ve been the thrust of the movie, but the reality genre dictates that there’s gotta be a lot of action going on to make it entertainment.

In fact, I could see an interesting comparison between The Real Cancun and Fellini's Satyricon, since both works deal with the constant, superfluous binging and purging of sex and partying.
But of course, Real Cancun can not hold a candle; make that a lighter, to Satyricon in terms of moviemaking.
The docu-movie could (or now I should say could've) work as a full-on documentary, yet it doesn't seem there is anything real when dealing with HIRED people who feel they need to heighten there expressions, mannerisms, and dialogue when on camera.

I knew that it was one of the first hotels in Cancun and that it occupies a prime location on the tip of the "7" shape that comprises the resort area of Cancun, surrounded on three sides by the Caribbean.
I had never seen the hotel before, because although it is near the nightlife in Cancun, it is "off the beaten track" of the main arterial road, the Boulevard Kukulkan.
It really was a shock for me, having stayed at many other hotels in Cancun that were all light, bright, covered in marble, with open high ceilings and an expansive floor plan in the common areas.

However, one bright ray of hope has emerged out of "Reality TV": CBS's "Amazing Race", a show that has teams racing across the globe completing challenges and seeing what the world has to offer, is a show that's beautifully edited and produced, exciting and actually has some educational value about the world around us.
SOUND: "Real Cancun"'s Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack is focused purely on the music, which bumps and thumps (and even spins around the room a few times) from all speakers throughout much of the movie.

The Real Cancun is the lastest brainchild of Mary-Ellis Bunim and Jonathan Murray, co-creators of MTV's "The Real World." Their expectation is that the massive fan base of the TV series will flock to theaters to see the movie, their desire fueled by titillating advertisements that promise more than The Real Cancun delivers.

"Cancun" is the first film to chronicle sex and relationships in the unscripted, 24/7-camera format popularized by MTV's "The Real World" and CBS' "Big Brother." "Real World" creators Mary-Ellis Bunim and Jonathan Murray are the movie's producers.

Their adventures, which include copious body shots (in which you slurp alcohol out of someone's navel), one-night stands and the transformation of a substance-free dweeb into a slurring, wasted, horn dog earned the film an R rating.

The Real Cancún (2003) - PopMatters Film Review
It was previously my understanding that a wet t-shirt contest is sort of like a real-life soft porn feature, where (usually female) contestants are sprayed with water until their shirts are see-through, and eventually, if the drunken audience is lucky, they'll dispense with their tops altogether.
During The Real Cancún's wet T-shirt contest, it's about 10 seconds before the first contestant has lifted up her shirt, which seems sort of like a porn movie starting with the pizza boy and the housewife mid-coitus.
There has been much talk of whether this will usher in a new trend of "reality" movies as uncensored companions to their network TV counterparts, but the initial box office results for Cancún are dismal: it opened at number 10, earning just $2.3 million.

For those who enjoy watching MTV’s “The Real World,” this is a condensed, racier and somewhat more ridiculously funny version of the long-running, documentary-style show.
If you haven’t happened to have ever seen or heard of MTV but like movies that have no plot or point except to show a bunch of good-looking college kids in bathing suits drinking in Mexico, and I know there are a lot of you, then this is also for you.
The plot, if one could call it that, revolves around about 10 different college-age students who go to Cancun for spring break and live in a ridiculously nice house where they make their base for a week of drinking, dancing, beach-going, sex, and general mayhem.
