The Ministry of Communications, the Department of Civil Aviation and the Belize Airport Authority categorically refute allegations and conclusions in an article in last weekend’s edition of the Reporter newspaper that safety and security at the Philip S.W. Goldson International Airport are being compromised.
The Department of Civil Aviation maintains a staff of twelve air traffic controllers, which are rotated every five days on 6-hour, 3-man daily shifts to provide the air traffic control, flight information and alerting services necessary to maintain safe flight operations in Belize.
Enrique Hoare, the manager of airport operations, notes that PSWGIA security procedures are subjected to constant unannounced, unescorted review and inspection by the Transport Security Administration within the United States Department of Transportation.

The association, owned and operated by Mopan, Kek'chi and Garifuna villages, is dedicated to minimizing the negative impacts of tourism, Belize's number one industry.
Los Angeles Times reporter Anne-Marie O'connor reports on the more than 100,000 Garifuna who have migrated to U.S. cities, including Los Angeles, New York and Chicago.
In 2001, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization proclaimed the Garifuna culture-- specifically Garifuna language, dance and music-- to be "a masterpiece of the oral and intangible heritage of humanity." The U.N. proclamation, which identifies "remarkable forms of expression," is only one of 19 issued.

The insurance companies turned out to be figments of Tedder and Muto's imaginations, and the victims' money was shuffled from accounts in the United States to banks in the Caymans and on to financial institutions in the tiny Central American country of Belize.
A civil suit has been filed against Muto on behalf of more than 60 of the cheated investors, and he was indicted in federal court on a number of conspiracy, fraud and money laundering charges.
The charges are unrelated to Muto's Sweetwater Development scam, but law enforcement sources say Tedder could be a prime government witness when Muto goes on trial next year.
